System Requirements
===================
* Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, NT 4 SP 3 or higher

* 5 MB of free disk space in the Windows drive
* 13 MB of free disk space in the target installation drive

==================
Installing Grapher
==================
Golden Software does not recommend installing Grapher 3 over any
previous version. Grapher 1, 2, and 3 can coexist on the same
system as long as they are installed in separate directories.

To install Grapher 3 under Windows NT 4 or Windows 2000, you need
to be logged onto the machine with administrator rights for that
computer.

Installing Grapher on a Local Drive
-------------------------------------
1. Insert the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. The install program
automatically begins on most computers.
2. Choose the Install Grapher option from the screen and setup
will begin.

Alternatively, Grapher can be installed through the Windows
Control Panel.
1. Double click on the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control
Panel to start the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog.
2. Click the Install button, then click the Next button.
Use the Browse button to locate the setup.exe file on the
CD-ROM. After selecting the setup.exe file, press Open.
3. Click the Finish button to begin the installation.

====================
Network Installation
====================

The Grapher program files can reside remotely on a file server
network drive.

***ATTENTION: Grapher may be installed on a network if the number
***of concurrent Grapher users does not exceed the number of legal
***packages of the program.

The server software must support long file names.

Grapher must be installed both on the server and directly at each
workstation.

To install Grapher on the server:
1. Log on to the file server with administrator rights.
2. Click Start | Run.
3. Enter the path to SETUP.EXE followed by /a. For example,
"R:\SETUP.EXE" /a
4. When the setup asks for a destination folder, choose one on the
file server (e.g. C:\G3Server). The setup copies all the Grapher files
plus the setup program and its associated files to the server drive.
Do not choose an existing server folder containing a previous version
as uninstalling a workstation install of a previous version depends on
the original installation database in the existing server folder.
5. We strongly recommend flagging the server folder contents as read-only.

* NOTE: If you wish to run Grapher on a Windows server itself,
* you will need to run setup again without the /a switch
* and install Grapher normally.

Next, install Grapher at each of the workstations:
1. Log on to the file server from each workstation that will run Grapher.
2. Start Windows and run the copy of SETUP.EXE located in the server
folder. DO NOT RUN SETUP FROM THE CD-ROM!
3. When the setup asks for a destination folder, choose one on the
local hard drive. A few small Grapher files are copied from the
server to the workstation, while the bulk of the Grapher files stay
on the server.

You will need to enter the Grapher serial number the first time
Grapher is run on each workstation.

Grapher must be installed directly at each workstation. It cannot be
installed from a remote computer over the network because the installation
involves editing the computer's registry. Certain parts of the registry
cannot be edited from a remote computer.

=============================
Troubleshooting Installations
=============================
If you are experiencing errors with the installation, please install
Grapher with error logging.

To create an installation error log:
1. Go to Start | Run.

2. For a local installation, type
"[drive letter]:\[path]\setup.exe" /V"/L* [drive letter]:\[path]\G3.log"

For a network installation, type
"[drive letter]:\[path]\setup.exe" /a /V"/L* [drive letter]:\[path]\G3.log"

Replace the [drive letter] and [path] with a drive letter and path
on your computer. The path to the log file cannot contain spaces.

3. Click OK. After the installation process terminates, the log file
is created in the path you specify. Please send the log file to
technical support along with the installation message text.

================
UPDATING Grapher
================

To update your version of Grapher, open the Grapher program and select
Help | Check for Update.

Do NOT install a newer FULL version of Grapher 3 over a previous
version of Grapher 3. This will not update the software. (i.e. Do
not install 3.02 over 3.00.) If for some reason you need to do a FULL
installation of Grapher 3, uninstall the previous version before
installing the updated version.

====================
Uninstalling Grapher
====================

To uninstall Grapher, go to Add/Remove programs in the Control
Panel. Select Grapher 3 from the list under the
Install/Uninstall tab. Click the Add/Remove button to uninstall
Grapher. Follow the onscreen instructions to completely remove
the Grapher program.

============================
Known Issues and Limitations
============================

Windows 95/98
-------------

* Large ellipses (approximately twelve inches or larger) cannot be
selected via proximity hit-testing due to a problem with Windows
95/98.

* Due to a limitation with Windows 95/98, the default maximum
page size cannot exceed 32.76 inches in either direction. The
workaround is to decrease the value of the page resolution setting
found under the General tab in the Grapher Preferences.

Windows NT4
-----------

* Opening multiple graph files under Windows NT may lead to some
views not having the correct zoom.

General
-------

* Some custom fits may produce negative r^2 values.

* Cannot insert (embed) or link a Grapher object as a Grapher
document within a Grapher document.

* Files with the .GR1 extension need to have the extension changed
to .GRF to be opened in Grapher.

* There is no support for slanted axes originally saved with Grapher
for DOS. Such axes are converted to standard axes.
