  • Think of a few sentences in Russian about Tyumen. Ask your group mates to translate them into English.

1.8.8.Act out a conversation in the tourist information office.

Student B: Answer Student A’s questions and make recommendations. Then swap roles.

1.8.9. Go to www.poland.traval/en/getting-around-the-town/. Listen, read and translate. Make a poster showing all the information you will get. Write an introduction to the web page making recommendations to visitors.

Exercise 2.2. Read the dialogue and act it out.

- What part of the country do you come from? - I come from Siberia. - Do you really live in Siberia? We in Great Britain know that Siberia is a place in the Far East to which people were sent to hard labour and exile. - It was so before the Revolution. Now it’s a land of powerful industry, construction projects, and splendid modern cities. - What city is a capital of oil and gas in Siberia? - My native town, Tyumen. - What is its population? - About a million. - Oh, It’s a big city!

Exercise 2.3. Find the places on the map: bank, chemist, cinema, post office, newsagent, church, supermarket, railway station, internet café.

Exercise 2.4. Listen to the directions. Start from YOU ARE HERE on the map. Follow the directions. Where are you?

Go down King’s Road. Turn right at the Grand Hotel into Charles Street. It’s next to the cinema.
