Dangerous corner «Symbols»

First of all, I would like to say that «Dangerous corner» is a dramatic story. In my analysis I try to find the symbols, which are very important in this text. The author of the story is John Boynton Pristley. He use the symbols because only in it, we can see the main problem of the text. And this are «truth and lie», «love and betrayal». There are two symbols: first symbol it’s a dangerous corner, the second is sleeping dog. The whole story focused on the symbols.

So, sleeping dog is like a truth, which shouldn’t be disturbed. At the very beginning of the text, several men and women are discussing a play that they have just heard. The main character is Robert Caplan, he is in a difficult situation, which has no way out. He has a wife, Freda. Also, he faced quite a lot problem in his life. Why? Because he lived and lives among the illusions. As we know, illusions means something incredible and tremendous thing. Yes, you can live among illusions, but not your whole life. And now all his illusions are broken up, the truth came out and now Robert faced up to things. Sooner or later all the truth come out.

The second symbol is dangerous corner. It can be considered as a dead end. During the text, we come across with deception, treachery. At the beginning of the story we can see very well-bred people, friendly family. But the truth is they aren’t. This is a deception. They are just prevented. But we know that everyone wants to hide a truth. Nevertheless, during the story the facts come out.

So, having analyzed the text I’d like to say that in our life we’ve always deception, truth and treachery. We are all deceive each other, and I think it is normal. Why I think so? Because in real life happens good and bad things. It is not depend on us. Here, in the text symbols emphasize the main idea of the text. All the characters face up to real things and also, we finally see their hypocrisy faces.

“The Dangerous Corner”. The Plot.

The text is divided into 3 parts, which are separated from each other by a period of time, yet the parts are ordered chronologically.

In the first part of the text we see a family and several close friends of the family. They have a conversation between each other on the topic of the truth. Everyone has their own associations with it and definitions if the “truth”

In the second part, it turns out that main character Robin was living in the fool’s paradise, by his own intentions. And it appeared that everyone he knew were deceptive and two-faced people.

In the third part, Robert finds out the truth, he can’t live any longer knowing the truth. And he kills himself.

The text can be divided into 4 part: exposition, which is the first part; complication – the second part; climax – the last lines of the characters; and resolution is the authors text at the end.

The beginning and the end of the story are very different, opposing in a way. In the beginning the family acts like a normal average family; we can believe that there are nothing wrong with those people. But at the end of the story, that scenery of the first part falls down, exposing naked, bleeding and horrible inside.

There is a combination of external and internal conflicts in the text. External conflict – Robert vs. Family and friends; internal conflict – Robert vs. himself.
