Второй тип чтения – гласная в закрытом слоге
Закрытым называется слог, который оканчивается на согласную букву, например, pea-nut. По второму типу чтения гласные буквы читаются следующим образом:

Exercise 6. Practice reading the words.

Exercise 7. Read and transcribe the words. Do not forget to put the stress mark if a word has two or more syllables.

Exercise 9. Practice reading the following tongue-twister. Find the words which are pronounced according to type 2.
Betty Botter bought some butter. But, she said, ‘This butter’s bitter!
If I put it in my batter, it will make my batter bitter’.
So, she bought a bit of butter better than her bitter butter,
And she put it in her batter and her batter was not bitter.
So, ‘twas better Betty Botter bought a bit of better butter.
