  • 1. What entrance exams do applicants take to enter a pharmaceutical faculty?

To enter a pharmaceutical faculty students take written entrance examinations in chemistry, biology and Ukrainian.

2. Where do the students have their practical classes and practical training?

Students have practical classes in laboratories and practical training at chemist’s shops.

3. When does the period of iternship start? How long does it last?

After graduation all pharmaceutical students have a period of internship, which lasts for one year.

4. What pharmaceutical specialities do you know?

There are pharmaceutical specialities such as “pharmacy”, “clinical pharmacy”, “technology of pharmaceutical preparations” and “ technology of perfumery and cosmetic preparations”.

5. What is the evidenceof high standart of medical and pharmaceutical education in Ukraine?

Today about eight thousand foreign students study medicine and pharmacy at higher medical educational establishments in Ukraine. It is half of all foreign students that study in our country. About one thousand and seven hundred applicants from abroad enter Uktainian medical universities and academies each year. This is evidence of a hight standard of medical and pharmaceutical education in our country

6. Where can graduates work after completing their study?

After completing the course of study at the pharmaceutical faculty graduates can work as managers, assistans, dispending pharmacists or chemists-analysts at cheist’s shop, pharmaceutical plants or chemical laboratories.

Pharmaceutical education in Great Britain.

7. The first pharmaceutical colleges in Great Britain were founded at the beginning of the nineteenth century.

8. Many institutions, in addition, offer graduate courses in pharmacy and cognate science leading, to the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in pharmacy, pharmacology, or related disciplines.

9. The professional responsibilities of a pharmacist are to give advise to the physician in the techniques of administery medication and possible interaction of drugs in the patient, along with expected side effects.

10. The basic five-year curriculum in British colleges of pharmacy embraces physics, chemistry, biology,bacteriology, physiology, pharmacology, and many other.

11. One is permitted to practice pharmacy in Great Britain as well as in other countries, in which a license is required, an applicant must be qualified by graduation.

Pharmaceutical education in the USA

12. The first college of pharmacy was founded in the USA in 1821 and is now known as the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.

13. Each state requires graduates to pass a state board examination before granting them a license to practice in the state.

14. The students must complete such specialized professional courses as pharmacology, the study of the effects of drugs on living things, pharmaceutics, physical chemistry of drugs, clinical pharmacy, and the application of pharmaceutical sciences to patient care.

15. Pharmacists may work in clinics, drugstores, hospitals, industrial plants, or research laboratories.
