Введение
Учебное пособие «Английский язык для студентов биологичеcких специальностей» предназначено для студентов 1 и\или 2 курса. Изучаемый материал расположен с повышением уровня сложности от Pre-Intermediate в первом уроке, до Upper-Intermediate в пятнадцатом. Возможно, такой значительный подъем уровня сложности в рамках одного учебного пособия может показаться мало реалистичным, но авторы руководствовались несколькими соображениями. Во-первых, пособие ориентировано на студентов, имеющих представление о биологии, а потому обладающих необходимыми предметными знаниями. Во-вторых, в условиях сокращенного количества часов, которое выделяется студентам биологических специальностей для изучения английского языка, нам приходится интенсифицировать процесс обучения, чтобы выполнить программу. Хотелось бы также отметить, что материалы учебника были апробированы на разных группах первого и второго курсов, и учащиеся успешно справляются с поставленными в пособии задачами.
Кроме того, учебное пособие сконструировано таким образом, что глубина и интенсивность проработки материала остается на усмотрение преподавателя, который ориентируется на изначальный уровень группы.
Пособие «Английский язык для студентов биологических специальностей» решает важные учебно-методические задачи и дополняет комплекс учебников, составленных для освоения английского языка на биологическом факультете, поскольку разработано для развития навыков чтения специальной литературы, создания у студентов необходимого лексического запаса, отработки навыков перевода специальных текстов с английского на русский и с русского на английский языки, а также навыков устной и письменной речи. Данные виды деятельности являются не только неотъемлемым компонентом обучения английскому языку на биологическом факультете, но они жизненно необходимы будущим выпускникам в их непосредственной научной деятельности – чтении и написании статей, общении с коллегами и т.д. Таким образом, актуальность данного пособия несомненна.
Пособие состоит из трех частей: лексического модуля, грамматического модуля и проверочных тестов.
Лексический модуль включает пятнадцать уроков ( Units).
В данной части пособия представлены материалы о систематике живых организмов, строении и функциях основных живых существ, населяющих нашу планету, а также освещаются такие проблемы как экология, защита окружающей среды, развитие теории эволюции, особенности процесса адаптации живых организмов и т.д.
Каждый урок посвящен одной теме ( Mammals, Birds, Ecosystems etc.).и содержит в себе:
Слова, относящиеся к общей и общенаучной лексике, необходимые для освоения данной темы и предназначенные для заучивания. Вместо их перевода предлагается определение на английском языке, составленное авторами учебного пособия с использованием словарей издательств Oxford, Macmillan и биологического словаря Lingvo. Такой словарь можно рассматривать как своего рода отдельное лексическое упражнение, так как умение объяснить английское слово на английском же языке значительно активизирует лексический запас и когнитивные навыки студентов.
Слова-термины и названия видов животных и растений предлагаются отдельным списком. Это упражнение для самостоятельной работы студентов со словарем. Заучивание данного списка остается на усмотрение преподавателя.

Разнообразные упражнения для отработки словосочетаний и предложений (Working with word combinations and sentences) помогут учащимся осознать, насколько важной структурной единицей английской научной речи является словосочетание, а также научат инкорпорировать их в собственные устные и письменные высказывания.
Основной текст урока (Text 1) и упражнения для работы с ним (Working with text), нацеленные на проверку понимания прочитанного.
Два дополнительных текста по теме урока (Text 2, Text 3). В данных текстах дается несколько иное освещение темы урока либо подробно раскрывается какой-то отдельный аспект обсуждаемой в нем проблемы или явления. В зависимости от уровня группы и количества часов, отведенных на усвоение материала, преподаватель может эти тексты пропустить, дать на самостоятельное чтение, разобрать на уроке, использовать как материал для пересказа.
Текст для перевода с русского на английский язык по теме урока (Text 4). В нескольких уроках в данном разделе приводится больше одного текста, чтобы как можно более полно охватить тему занятия. Перевод с русского на английский текстов научного характера – одно из наиболее сложных, но и результативных упражнений. В ходе такого перевода закрепляется усвоенная лексика, а также активизируется владение грамматическими конструкциями.
Задания на развитие навыков устной и письменной речи (Speaking and writing). Каждый урок заканчивается списком тем, по которым студентам предлагается сначала сделать небольшой доклад или презентацию, за затем написать эссе или статью. Умение выступать и излагать свои мысли на английском языке – языке международного общения - как устно, так и письменно, является в наши дни важнейшим навыком для любого ученого.
Грамматический модуль (Grammar Pages) состоит из пятнадцати секций (Sections). Традиционно, все грамматические явления и структуры, изложенные в данном модуле, входят в учебники от уровня Pre-Intermediate (такие жизненно необходимые конструкции, как Simple Tense или Passive Forms) до уровня Upper-Intermediate (Modal Verbs, Linking Words). Однако некоторые темы мало освещаются в учебниках General English (Emphasis, например). Выбор материала и подробность его изложения были обусловлены тем, насколько часто та или иная грамматическая конструкция встречается в текстах научного регистра и, соответственно, востребована студентами. Трактовка отдельных грамматических явлений упрощается и схематизируется, это представляется авторам оправданным, т.к. в этом случае пособие становится более функциональным, что очень важно для студентов естественных специальностей. Кроме того, определенные ограничения на авторов накладывают заданные размеры пособия.
Каждая грамматическая секция содержит:
Краткое теоретическое изложение той или иной грамматической темы. Целевой аудиторией данного учебного пособия являются студенты биологического факультета, и с учетом их интересов и потребностей теоретическая часть материала излагается на русском языке и в несколько усеченном виде, т.е. по каждой теме излагаются лишь основные явления и правила. Дополнить и разнообразить этот материал каждый преподаватель может по своему усмотрению, привлекая дополнительные источники.
Практические упражнения, позволяющие студентам быстро освоить или повторить предложенный материал. Хотелось бы отметить, что упражнения и примеры во многом основаны на специальной, т.е. биологической лексике. Авторы полагают, что такого рода грамматический справочник под одной обложкой со специальными текстами и лексикой будет особенно удобен в использовании как для студентов, так и для преподавателей.
Раздел Тесты (Tests) содержит тесты для лексической части и тесты для грамматической части пособия. Тесты для лексической части сводные, каждый охватывает материал трех уроков и позволяет проверить, насколько хорошо усвоен прежде всего лексический материал. Тесты для грамматической части также сводные, каждый охватывает материал трех секций и дает упражнения на проверку изложенного в секциях грамматического материала.
Авторы искренне надеются, что данное пособие поможет студентам овладеть словарным запасом, необходимым для чтения специальной литературы и устного обсуждения представленных биологических тем.
