Plants and wildlife

Over 2,600 plant species (a huge number for its small size). Key Species are: Cilician Fir and Mediterranean Pine, oak and juniper forests, wild orchids and spring wildflowers.

Mammals: Lebanese mountain squirrel, striped hyena, golden jackal, and gazelles. Birdlife: a crucial global migratory flyway (over 500 species recorded). Marine Life: Mediterranean monk seals (rare), sea turtles, and diverse fish. Conservation: several species are endangered and protected in nature reserves (e.g., Al Shouf, Horsh Ehden).
