19. How did the concept of creativity change in the course of time?
Nowadays people believe that creativity comes completely from the self of the individual. And for the first time in history, you start to hear people referring to this or that artist as being a genius rather than having a genius.
Historically, people believed that creativity was a divine spirit. The Greeks named these spirits "daemons". The Romans had the same idea, but they called this spirit a genius. Romans did not actually think that a genius was a particularly clever individual. It was a sort of magical divine entity, who was believed to literally live in the walls of an artist's studio, kind of like Dobby the house elf, who would come out and assist the artist with the work and would shape the outcome of that work.
20. Why are we so interested in celebrities? To what extent do you agree that but for them, we would feel purposeless?
We live in a society where media play a significant role, celebrities serve as symbols of success, beauty, talent, and inspiration, which captivate our attention and fascination. Celebrities with the string of stories about their hardships and their lucky breaks, their affairs and their break-ups, prove to be nothing out of the ordinary. Reading about their lives does not inspire us or fill us with purpose. If it isn't just an idle diversion - a way of killing time - it may well help us to resign ourselves to our own sense of purposelessness.
