• From the first steps of his development, humanity was closely connected with nature. Humans were always dependent on natural resources and were forced to reckon with the features of the lifestyle of animals and plants.

Ecologists are scientists who explores the relationships of plants, animals and ecosystems.

Ecologists contribute to the preservation of the natural world. They specialize in one of the many ecosystems of the planet (oceans, forests, urban environments, deserts, mountains, etc.) or in different types of fauna and flora.

The ecologist analyzes and develops measures to reduce the harm done by people to the environment. The ecologist studies the state of water, soil and air, the impact of industrial waste on plants, animals and humans. He finds out the causes of natural disasters and develops ways to minimize the impact of people on nature.

As an ecologist, you will spend a large part of your time out in the field, conducting scientific researches, classifying plants, animals and other organisms, recording and analyzing the data that you accumulate.

Ecologists are can occupy very different positions, from a technical job in a laboratory to an consultant role on environmental policy issues. Responsibilities of the ecologist vary from monitoring compliance with rules and regulations for environmental protection, to running campaigns for the protection of endangered species.

Crucial basic skills for the ecologist are:

- Wide competencies in the fields of chemistry, biology and geography.

- Passion for the natural environment

- Interest in fieldwork

- Analytical skills

- High standards of accuracy and attention to detail

- Patience

As ecologist, also you must:

- Be familiar with generally accepted norms and standards of environment legislation

- Be informed about environmental impact assessment methods

- Be able to master environmental monitoring methods and computer modeling skills

The profession of the ecologist suits for the individuals who have a strong intention in preserving and protecting the environment, along a desire to solve problems. The best quality to have is an intense interest in what makes the living world work.

Ecological concerns across the whole world are becoming more widespread, giving rise to the need for more experts.
