Word + Part of speech (grammar)

Definition

Morality (n)

A system of morals that is followed.

Solitary (adj)

Alone; without friends, family, or other people.

Nasty (adj)

Offensive, vicious, difficult to deal with

(e.g. she was a very nasty person whom no one wanted to work with).

Brutish (adj)

Cruel and uncivilised; like an animal.

Sovereign (n)

A king/queen or other supreme ruler. This could be a person or group (e.g. government).

Tragedy (n)

A sad theme or event that is considered to be a disaster.

Rebel (v)

Rebel (n)

Rebellion (n)

The act of going against (refusing to adhere to) a ruler (sovereign). Pron: the word stress is on ‘bel’.

A person who goes against the sovereign. Pron: the word stress is on ‘re’.

An organised resistance to a sovereign AND the act of rebelling.

Bound by (v)

Tied to under a legal or moral obligation. (e.g. We are bound by the social contract).

Rational (adj)

Reasonable (having the ability to reason); sensible.

Diffidence (n)

Mistrust; having a lack of confidence.

Dilemma (n)

A situation that requires a choice between two options that are equal (usually the options are equally as bad as each other).
