Word + Part of speech (grammar)

Definition

Treatise (n)

Formal piece of writing (longer than an essay).

Rational (adj)

Sensible and following reason. Can describe a person or a person’s actions. Antonym: irrational.

Hierarchies (n)

Systems of people or things ranked one above the other.

Bridle (n)

A piece of equipment used to direct a horse.

Infinite (adj)

Unlimited or unmeasurable. Opposite of ‘finite’.

Eudaimonia (n)

A Greek word which translates to mean ‘happiness’, ‘welfare’ or ‘human flourishing’. It is the state of being happy, healthy, and prosperous.

Flourish (v)

To be successful and prosperous.

Prosperous (adj)

Used to describe a successful or favourable situation.

Tranquility (n)

Calmness, serenity, without stress.

Platitudinous (adj)

Used to describe a meaningless statement.

Ergon (n)

Function, task, or work.

Arete (n)

The ‘excellence’ of someone or something; for example, the arête of a knife is its sharpness.

Traits (n)

Distinguishing characteristics or qualities of a person or a thing.

(The) Mean (n)

Something that is midway (in the middle) between two points.
