Written Exercises

1. The Manager of Tourist Product Development at Abenteuer Urlaub, Uwe Stein, will write a letter to the Zanirian Minister of Commerce inquiring about the possibility of a meeting to discuss the development of a tourist resort in Zanir. The letter will generally present the project, including the location (beach front) and approximate size of the land required (1 square kilometer), briefly mention the mutual advantages of the project, and ask for a meeting to present the project in more detail. The tone of the letter is extremely important and must be characterized by formality and respect. Use the following greeting and closing:

INSIDE ADDRESS: The Honorable Dr. Emanuel N'Komo Minister of Commerce

GREETING: Dear Sir. CLOSING: Yours respectfully.

Use terms such as:

We respectfully request ...

We believe a tourist development project to be mutually beneficial. We would appreciate your consideration of our request and hope that you may grant us an opportunity to present our concept

in detail for your consideration.

2. A member of the Ministry of Commerce, the Deputy Secretary of Tourism, will write a letter in response to Abenteuer's letter and assign a date for the meeting. The letter will be addressed to Uwe Stein.

GREETING: Dear Mr. Stein:

Closing: Yours sincerely

3. After the first meeting and after the Ministry has considered Arbenteur’s proposal, a member will write a letter accepting or rejecting further negotiations.
