Предисловие
Настоящий сборник упражнений представляет собой методические указания для студентов 1 курса специальностей «МЭ», «МКД», ММа», «СО», «ММ», «ЭУПТ», «УАВД».
Сборник составлен на основе учебника «Interactions», изданного в США.
Цель упражнений, включенных в сборник, – активизировать знание лексического материала и выработать лексические и коммуникативные навыки.
Сборник сохраняет структуру учебника, задания располагаются по главам.
К каждой главе дается список слов с дефинициями на английском языке с целью обогащения и расширения словарного запаса студентов.
Всборник включены следующие упражнения:
-дать определения словам;
-выбрать правильное значение слова;
-закончить предложение;
-вставить пропущенные предлоги;
-перефразировать предложения, используя активную лексику;
-подобрать синонимы;
-перевести с русского языка на английский язык и др.
Основная цель сборника – активизация употребления лексических единиц,
встречающихся в текстах для чтения.

Part 1: Education: A Reflection of Society
Words to remember
similarity (n.) – something that makes one thing seem like another: similarity between identical (adj.) – exactly the same: companies that were identical in most respects identical to/with
reflect (v.) – to show the existence or nature of something reflection (n.) – something that clearly shows something startled (adj.) – suddenly frightened or surprised by something
elementary school – in the US, a school for children between the ages of five and about eleven. In the UK this is called a primary school.
tuition (n.) – money that you pay to take lessons, especially at a college, university, or private school
quit (v.) – to leave a job or school permanently
relevance (n.) – the quality of being connected with and important to something else value (n.) – 1. the degree to which someone or something is important or useful
2. values [plural] the principles and beliefs that influence the behaviour and way of life of a particular group or community: Christian/Western/Islamic values value (v.) – to consider someone or something to be important
egalitarian (adj.) – supporting a social system in which everyone has equal status and the same money and opportunities
equal (adj.) – having or deserving the same rights and opportunities as other people status (n.) – someone’s position in a profession or society, especially compared to other people: social/professional status; high/low/privileged status
self-control (n.) – the ability to control your behaviour and not show strong emotions such as anger or sadness
attend (v.) – to go regularly to a place, for example to a school as a student vocational (adj.) – a vocational course teaches the skills necessary for a particular job

graduate (n.) – (am.) someone who has finished their studies at a high school, college, or university: a high school graduate
undergraduate (n.) – a student who is studying for a first degree at a college or
university
available (adj.) – able to be obtained, taken, or used
