II. Past Continuous
The Past Continuous Tense образуется при помощи вспомогательного глагола to be в Past Simple и причастия I основного глагола (табл. 5):

The Past Continuous Tense употребляется для выражения:
1. Длительного действия, происходящего в определенный момент в прошлом. Этот момент может быть ясен из контекста или обозначен:
а) точным указанием времени (часа): I was waiting for you at ten o'clock yesterday;
б) другим действием, выраженным глаголом в Past Simple: I was reading when the telephone rang.
2.Несколышх длительных действий, происходивших одновременно:
While she was cooking dinner, Ann was laying the table.
3. Обычных повторяющихся действий с определенной эмоциональной окраской:
They were always quarreling.
Глаголы, выражающие чувства (like, dislike, hate, love), ощущения (hear, see, feel,
smell), умственную деятельность (remember, know, think), а также некоторые
другие глаголы не имеют форм Continuous.
Прошедшее время Past Continuous переводится на русский язык глаголом
несовершенного вида
