When one side of the train nears the side of the guideway, the super conducting magnet on the train induces a repulsive force from the levitation coils on the side closer to the train and an attractive force from the coils on the farther side.
This keeps the train in the center.
COMPARISION OF MAGLEV AND WHEEL
TRAIN
MAGLEV
No mechanical contact
No possibility of derailment
Mantainence very little
Travels at very high speed
IRON WHEEL
Contact between wheels and rails
Derails from a minor defect
Needs mantainence quite regularly
Slower than maglev trains
•The maglev tracks take up a lot less land, because they are elevated. This also reduces the amount of collisions and accidents.
•Maglev trains use far less energy than other types of transportation.
•Maglev trains do not pollute
•Maglev trains are much faster
• Less maintenance
Disadvantages
Cost and infrastructure
Weight of the electromagnets is also an issue
Feasible only in urban areas
On 21st April, 2015 a maglev train operated by central Japan Railway has set a world record of 603 kmph in a test run surpassing its previous record of 581 kmph.
More energy efficient and environment friendly than present day railway system
Maglev will have a positive impact on sustainability.
Maglev trains are the future of the transportation world.
