The word aviation/ˌeɪvɪˈeɪʃən/  wascoinedby French writer, aviation pioneer  and former naval officer Guillaume Joseph Gabriel de La Landelle (1812-1886)  in 1863 "Aviation ou Navigation aérienne.", from the verb avier (synonymous flying), itself derived from the Latin word avis (“bird”) and the suffix -ation. Aviation is the practical aspect or art of aeronautics, being the design, development, production, operation and use of aircraft, especially heavier than air aircraft. Aviation is the science that makes airplanes and other vehicles that fly through the air. Aviation deals with travel by air, specifically in a plane. The aviation industry is the business sector dedicated to manufacturing and operating all types of aircraft.
