Software tools

10.102. Recommendations for software tools are given in paragraphs 8.152-8.186.

THIRD PARTY ASSESSMENT

10.103. Safety system software should be assessed by a third party.

10.104. The objective of the third party assessment is to provide a view on the adequacy of the system and its software that is independent of both the supplier and the user (the licensee). Such an assessment may be undertaken by the regulator or by a body acceptable to the regulator.

10.105. The assessment should involve a thorough examination of:

  1. The development process (e.g., through quality assurance audits and technical inspections, including examination of intermediate products, such as software specifications, and the full scope of test activities) and

  2. The final product (e.g., through static analysis, inspection and testing).
