The 850th anniversary of Moscow was celebrated in 1997.
Now we are approaching Tverskaya Square which appeared in Moscow at the end of the 18th century. It was designed by the prominent Russian architect Matvei Kazakov. On the right there’s the Moscow City Hall where Moscow’s Mayor Office is located. The building of the City Hall appeared on the square in 1782 for the Moscow Governor-General Chernyshov who ruled Moscow at that time. The name of our present Mayor is Sergey Sobianin. On the left-hand side you can see the monument to the founder of Moscow Yuri Dolgiruky (the Long-Armed). In September 1947, when the 800th anniversary of Moscow was celebrated, the foundation of the monument was laid. In 1954 the monument was built up.
