1) One of the most favourite games of Eskimo children was bull-roarer, wasn’t it? Can you explain the rules of this game? 2) Did the Russian children play the game like this game? 3)What games did Eskimo boys and girls also like to play? 4) Which kind of modern sport can you match with blanket toss?
For all I know one of the most favourite games of Eskimo children was bull-roarer. Eskimo children used strings, sticks or bones for toys. They tied а string to а thin cutting edge of stick or bone and moved back and forth over their head like а propeller. That made а loud, whizzing noise. Some child could make а louder whiz much easily than their friends. It was a regular competition between Eskimo children in making the loudest noise.
Another very calm game was making string figures bу looping string over and around their fingers. Boys played with a small bone or ivory carved animals. Girls played with carved dolls that were dressed in tiny parkas, mittens, and boots just like their own clothes.
Games such as tug-of-war, kickball, and wrestling were popular. Blanket toss was popular, too. People stood in а circle, holding the edges of stretched walrus skins. It was like а trampoline. They stood in the center and got bounced five feet! Ten feet! Fifteen feet into the air! Eskimo children tossed each other. They enjoyed playing these games many years ago.
