10. Study the expression, explain it. Find out sentences from the chapter in which this expression is used. Make up your own sentences according to the pattern.

Pattern: he/we/listen to his story from the beginning to the end.

He made us listen to his story from the beginning to the end.

11. Fill in prepositions:

We arrived and hid ... some trees. There was an open area ... grass ... the edge ... the cliffs. The small houses ... the apemen were ... the trees, and they were made ... leaves.

This time it was Summerlee. Two ... the apemen caught him ... the arms. Challenger turned ... the king. The king pushed Challenger ... and then, ... that moment, Lord John shot him.

Professor Challenger and I helped Summerlee to run .... Finally we arrived ... our camp. We thought we were safe, but then we heard the sound ... feet. Lord John went outside ... his rifle and found the surviving Indians.

We could not stay ... the camp. We left ... the Indians and found another place to hide.

That night, before we slept, Professor Challenger came ... me.

The next morning we decided to go ... the Indian caves. We left the forest and walked ... an open area. When we arrived ... the lake, our Indian friends began to shout with joy. A large number ... canoes were coming towards us. When they arrived ... land, an older Indian came and embraced the young chief. Then the young chief began to talk ... his men. He told them that now was the time to attack and defeat the apemen ... the last time. They were all together and they had the help of these strange men ... great magic - our rifles. We, too, decided to go ... them the next day to fight the apemen.

That evening we made our camp ... the lake. We saw many strange creatures ... the water ... long necks. One ... them came out of the water ... the beach.

Lord John was not interested ... the wonderful animals. Again, he noticed the blue colour ... the ground near some volcanic holes.

Now there were ... four or five hundred of them. We all went towards the forest to fight our war ... the apemen.

... the open, it was easy to defeat them. When we went ... the forest it was more difficult. But, ... the help ... the rifles, ... the end the Indians won.

... the battle Challenger turned ... us and said, 'We've seen one ... the typical great battles ... history. The most important victories ... human history were different. They were the victories ... primitive man ... tigers, of primitive man ... apemen. Now the future ... this plateau belongs ... man.'
