The gerund as a predicative
As a rule the gerund in the function of the predicative is used after the following link verbs:
To be to look like to feel like to be like
Her job is giving legal advice. = Ее работа -- предоставлять юридическую консультацию. / Її робота – надавати юридичну консультацію.
It looks like raining. = Похоже, идет дождь. / Схоже, іде дощ.
Reading felt like discovering new worlds. = По ощущениям, чтение напоминало открытие новых миров. / За відчуттям, читання нагадувало відкриття нових світів.
He didn’t feel like going out that evening. = У него не было желания идти развлекаться в тот вечер. / У нього не було бажання йти розважатися куди-небудь у той вечір.
Travelling was like breathing fresh air. = Путешествие было как глоток свежего воздуха. / Мандрування було як ковток свіжого повітря.
