My Native City.
Good morning, dear teacher. Let me tell you a few words about my native city Reutov. Reutov is a small city in Moscow Region and it adjoins to an eastern frontier of Moscow. Exact date of the basis of the city is unknown. Historians consider that Reutov has been based in 1492 – 1495. But the status of a city has been appropriated to it only in 1940, next year it will celebrate its 70th anniversary. There are some legends and versions of the name "Reutovo". The Most probable and accepted by a city for the official version, is the version that there passed the alarm line entering into system of defence of Moscow which consisted of watchtowers with bells, transmitting a signal about approach of the enemy to Moscow. One of such towers was in our city.
There is a technical school, some comprehensive schools and a lyceum in our city. So the city is ready to give necessary knowledge to its inhabitants. In the city “Reutov” museum, an art gallery and children's musical opera theatre work. On a South side near to railway station the temple is located, in northern part of a city the cathedral of the Sacred Trinity is under construction.
The population of the city isn’t very big, only about 80000 people live here. As for transport, in a city some buses and fixed-route taxis go, it is quite enough for a small city. Also there is a railway station that divides the city on two parts. At week-days it is possible to reach Moscow for half an hour. Besides by 2010 opening of metro station "Novokosino" near to Reutov is planned.
The city is very green. There are several parks and a pond in the city. People usually spend their free time there. Besides, the central street of our town is beautifully decorated with tulips. It makes our town very beautiful and nice. I like to go to the park by bicycle or to go for a walk there with my friends, when I have a free time. I love my native town very much.
My University.
Good morning, dear teacher. Let me tell you some words about my university. Moscow Power Engineering Institute (Technical University), or MPEI in short, was founded in 1930 in Moscow at the very beginning of world power engineering development and was widened with the discovering of new energy sources, solving new scientific and technological problems. MPEI is the same age as Russian Power Engineering.
MPEI now is the largest Russian Power Engineering University and scientific center, one of the main universities in Russia in the field of Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Science. MPEI today is a unity of modern educational and scientific laboratories, cabinets and lecture halls with modern equipment. The head of MPEI is professor Sergey Vladimirovich Serebriannikov.
The MPEI has the official status of Technical University and is a member of International Association of Universities being really international higher educational institution. In accordance with official rating of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation the MPEI holds one of the leading places in the list of all technical universities of Russia.
MPEI has a unique educational Heat and Power Plant which was the first plant of such type from those, which were built for Universities, one of the largest university’s Scientific and Technological library, own Publishing Office. MPEI has also large sport stadium and swimming pool there students and professors may spend their free time.
Now MPEI consists of 9 Technical Institutes, 3 special Faculties Institute of Humanities, Institute of Technology, Ecology and Business. There are 70 departments in MPEI, 550 educational laboratories for students. Now more then 10000 students are trained in MPEI, nearly 500 foreign students from 40 countries.
Training of foreign students in MPEI started in 1946. Compared with many other Russian Technical Universities MPEI has been always open for foreigners and citizens of any country may enter any MPEI course.
What about me, I’m first-year student of MPEI. In five years I’ll be a computer programmer. I had been preparing to enter Moscow University for 2 years studying in the lyceum 1502 based on MPEI. I studied mathematics and programming very hard there. As a result, I entered MPEI last year. I am really glad that I have entered this university. I’m sure, that studying here gives a solid background in all spheres of knowledge and prepares for practical work.
