Snowshoeing was a common way of moving through deep snow. The French fur trades got the idea from the native people. It became popular in the middle of the 1800’s and snowshoeing clubs were formed. It is still popular nowadays.

Today tobogganing is a popular winter activity in Canada. Sliding down hills on sleds of all kinds is fun for the whole family. Tobogganing were used by the Inuit in the north to transport small loads over the snow. Toboggans were made of two or more thin board of wood. The boards turned up in the front. They were pulled by people or by dogs.
