Tesla Motors Receives Prestigious ‘Breakthrough Award’ from Popular Mechanics
Magazine Honors Silicon Valley Manufacturer of Performance Electric Vehicles 20 avril 2010
NEW YORK – Tesla Motors, manufacturers of performance electric cars, was named a recipient of a 2006 Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Award for its work in developing the Tesla Roadster, the world’s first all-electric production sports car. The magazine's editors presented the 2006 winners their awards Wednesday evening at the publication’s new home, the Hearst Tower in New York City.
Popular Mechanics salutes 10 advancements each year – and their innovators – that promise to shape the future by improving lives and expanding possibilities in the realms of science, technology and exploration. 2006 is the second year the publication has presented its Breakthrough Awards.
The Tesla Roadster is the first automobile to receive a Breakthrough Award. "The Breakthrough Awards distinguish those ideas and inventions that are changing the face of technology, and the Tesla Roadster is leading an automotive revolution," said James Meigs, editor-in-chief of Popular Mechanics. "Martin Eberhard and his team at Tesla Motors have developed a car with something for everyone — speed, great handling, good looks and zero emissions."
Tesla Motors Model S named car of the year
Tesla Motors also won the award for the Best Green Car. What makes this win more special is that this was Tesla’s first appearance in the CCOTY awards, which is based on a number of parameters such as retained value, affordability, critical evaluation, ownership cost and consumer engagement.
Awards & Achievements of Elon Musk:
In 2010, the premier world organization for aerospace records, the ‘Fédération Aéronautique Internationale’ awarded Musk the ‘FAI Gold Space Medal. He shares this highest honor with prominent personalities like Neil Armstrong and John Glenn.
He has won multiple awards and recognitions for his many advancements in science, technology and business alike and in 2013 was named 'Fortune' magazine's 'Businessperson of the Year' for his companies ‘SpaceX’, ‘Tesla Motors’ and ‘SolarCity’
Cultural:
Promotion of new technologies like electrocars and green energy
Human:
As Elon likes to say "Tesla is like the special forces" and many people just can not cut it - especially in target-driven departments like sales, where I first worked.
You also have to remember that the average age of Tesla employees is incredibly young - in my team it was around 25 years old, and at the European HQ it was about 30. You have to expect higher turnover among recent university graduates who are exploring their interests and career options. I, for example, left to set up a retail and customer service consultancy, using the skills and experience I acquired at Tesla.
Motivation:
Mirroring what Kenneth Hatter said, at Tesla they try to look for people who have a compelling reason to be here and believe in their mission. These people would naturally have the drive and motivation to work here. Tesla's mission is "to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport by bringing compelling mass market electric cars to market as soon as possible." In order to actually complete this mission there will be long and brutal hours and the competition is fierce. We're all in this to change the world for the better and if you don't believe in this mission you're not gonna succeed here.
