Entry to a medical University in Belarus depends on the results of competitive exams additional to the exams of the Certificate of general education.
Those who obtain the highest marks are admitted.
Unfortunately inner views are not used to asses personal qualities , especially motivations.
About 80% of students receive grants.
Attendance of lectures and seminars is compulsory for all students.
Curricula are planned centrally by the Ministry of health.
Teaching is arranged in 2 semesters with the examination at the end of each year.
There is an additional month of clinical practice in summer at the end of the 3rd year (as nurses) and at the end of the 4th year (as doctors’ assistants) .
After graduating medical students in Belarus normally get diplomas which are actually the same as the British first degree.
After the finals graduators work for a year at the approved clinics under the guidance of the most qualified medical specialists. This period is called internship.
General Entry Requirements to the Admission to the Medical Colleges.
The competition to the admission is rather intense.
Students are admitted to the fall & spring semesters.
Usually the application deadline is August one for the fall semester & December one for Spring semester.
To be considered to the admission into the program ascended must hold a Bachelors Degree of the accredited college or university (accredited college is a college included into the World Directory of Medical Schools).
Degrees in progress are also considered.
Official transcripts are required.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate competence in English comprehension &expression. Candidates who aren’t successful in three attempts are not illegible to apply again.
Applicants who apply a Bachelors Degree are required to write Medical College admition Test (MCAT).
Applicants who have persuade diverse curriculum are evaluated in comparison with others presenting the same qualifications.
Candidates are also assessed through several other criteria including
- potential for leadership
- participation in social work
- productive use of time & other experiences
Fulfillment of basic illegibility requirements or high Academic Score in any single discipline or any other outstanding achievement alone isn’t sufficient for selection
There is not lower or upper age limits for the admition colleges, however the admition committee has been reluctant to admit very young or old applicants.
