TEXT 1. When we want to know the time, we look at a clock or a watch. We can see two hands on the face of a watch. One hand is long. It points to minutes. The other hand is short. It points to hours. The hands go round the face. On the face of the watch there are twelve figures from 1 to 12. When the hour hand stands on eight and the minute hand stands on twelve, it is eight o'clock sharp.
TEXT 2. It is 9 o'clock. The teacher is in the classroom. We have an English lesson. At ten past nine Nick enters the classroom. He is late. He says: "I am sorry. By my watch it's just nine." The teacher says: "Your watch is wrong. It is slow."
TEXT 3. We have six lessons a day. A lesson lasts forty-five minutes. Between the lessons there is a break. We have short breaks (they last 5 or 10 minutes) and a lunch break (it lasts half an hour). The lunch break begins at 12.25 p.m. and it ends at 12.55 p.m.
