Our Institute
The Tchaikovsky state physical education institute is one of the youngest higher educational establishments in the Perm region. The institute was founded in 1980.At first it was called the “snow” institute, as winter kinds of sports were mainly cultivated in it. The institute became popular among sportsmen taking up cross-country skiing, biathlon, Alpine events, ski-jumping, Nordic combined and luge. The first enrolment of the institute was 125 students. Young people from different parts of our country study at the Tchaikovsky state physical education institute. The contingent of it is about 1 thousand students. The applicants must pass competitive entrance examinations to be admitted to the institute.
Our institute is situated in Lenin Street; it is a four-storeyed building. There are many classrooms and lecture halls, special rooms for training, laboratories and a large gymnasium in it. The gym is a bright hall with large windows. There is special modern equipment for gymnastics, sports games and other kinds of sport. On the ground floor there is a good library with a reading-hall. The library contains over 60.000 books and magazines. There you can get books on your speciality.
The structure of the institute includes administrative and management divisions, the education and methodology board, the deans’ offices and the editorial-publishing division. Our institute has got its own sports facilities: a sports complex, a swimming pool and a Federal winter sports training centre. Our students have all the conditions for mastering this or that kind of sport. Our sportsmen spend a lot of time in training and they take part in different contests. Some new sports have appeared recently: aerobics [eə’rəubiks], sports dancing, Thai boxing, taekwondo [ֽtaikwɒn’dəu] and ski-cross.
At present, 2 departments and 2 faculties train coaches in different kinds of sport, PE teachers, specialists in adaptive physical education and safety of vital activity and also managers of organization. Our students can study at the day-time and correspondence departments of the winter sports and specialized faculties.
Laboratory research and computer training are in the institute’s curriculum. Some of our students are members of the students’ scientific society. They engage in research work and write undergraduate theses.
The course of training at the institute lasts four or five years. Our students combine studies with successful participation in the sports competitions. The curriculum of the four or five year educational course includes both compulsory and optional subjects: social sciences, psychology and sports psychology, biology and anatomy, theory and methods of physical education, sports management, Russian and one of the foreign languages (English, German or French ).The institute has got a phonetic study where students perfect their knowledge in these languages.
The academic year is divided into two terms .At the end of each semester the students take credit tests and exams. After each session they have holidays.
The students of our institute are provided with free or paid education and trainings in the sports facilities. A lot of our students receive state scholarships.
The students of the third and fourth courses have educational practice at schools, kinder-gardens, summer-health camps, different organizations and enterprises. The four or five year students who have passed all their credit tests and exams are admitted to the state finals.
The teaching staff of our institute numbers more than 130 lecturers. It includes 14 Doctors, 35 Candidates of Sciences and 34 assistant professors. They engage in research work alongside teaching. The lecturers of the institute published a great number of scientific manuscripts and method guides.
The aims of our institute are to create a scientific basis for development of physical education and to train teaching staff.
There are 9 chairs at the institute: the chair of social sciences, the chair of skiing, the chair of sports-health work and tourism, the chair of martial arts, the chair of adaptive physical education, the chair of safety of vital activity and others.
After graduating from the institute, the young people work as PE teachers, coaches in different kinds of sport. They also become specialists in adaptive physical education, safety of vital activity and managers. Our graduates work at schools, sports schools and sports clubs, training centers, sanatoria and enterprises.
The institute, in its nearly 30-year history, has trained a lot of highly-qualified specialists working in different parts of our country. The Tchaikovsky state physical education institute is proud of its graduates. Among them the top-class athletes: S. Nikitin, Y. Stepanova (cross country skiing), E.Yurieva, N. Burdiga and S.Konovalov (biathlon), V. Tsyganov, G. Syngatova (Alpine events), A.Demchenko (luge), I. Timofejev (karate). They are European, world and Olympic prize-winners. Merited coaches train them at the international level. Some students of the institute are in the vanguard of Russian sport: A. Drobinin - a world champion (kick-boxing), T. Ivanova - a silver medal winner of the 2010 Winter Olympiad (luge) , A.Smyshlyajev- a participant of the Winter Olympics in Italy in 2006 and in Canada in 2010 (freestyle) , M. Dyldin - a bronze medal winner of the Summer Olympics in China in 2008 (track and field ) and others.
