2. Read and understand the text. More about computers

There are two different types of electronic computers: digital computers and analog computers. The digital computers count. They can add, subtract, multiply, divide, match, collate and print information. The analog computers measure. They are able to do complicated problems. Electronic computers calculate at nearly the speed of light. Electronic computers were invented to give high-speed answers to large and complicated problems that once took months for man to do. Modern computers can play chess, compose music and even write plays. At limes they seem almost human. But the truth is that no machine can duplicate the human brain. Both the computer's energy and initiative come from a source outside itself. Computers cannot think for themselves. They must be told what to do down to the last detail. On the one hand a computer will never have a truly original or creative thought. But on the other a computer will never day-dream when it is supposed to be concentrating on its work. The circuits, switches and electrical impulses that travel through them function in ways that are so similar to our brain and nervous system that many people call computers “electronic brain". Computers must be told what to do all times and every single action that the computer takes is the result of an instruction.
