Навчальний посібник « English for Technical Students» містить добірку текстів та тренувальних вправ. Може використовуватись як основний посібник для 3 і 4 курсів спеціальності 5.05020201 «Монтаж, обслуговування засобів і систем автоматизації технологічного виробництва».
Навчальний матеріал посібника спрямований на поглиблення знань студентів лексики за професійним спрямуванням, лексичних одиниць,утворених шляхом конверсії і поєднання основ; граматичних правил вживання видо-часових форм в реченнях; правил словотворення лексики професійного спрямування; правил перекладу синтаксичних структур з іноземної мови на рідну.
Завдання, запропоновані у посібнику, сприяють розвитку таких умінь студентів:
читати і перекладати тексти професійного спрямування середнього ступеня складності;
користуватися двомовними словниками;
читати тексти професійного спрямування з елементами аналізу;
передавати граматичні явища типові для спеціальних текстів;
застосовувати між предметний аналіз професійних реалій та понять;
робити лексико-граматичний аналіз прочитаного тексту.
Дидактична ефективність, доступність, простота і професійно-зорієнтований характер посібника роблять його корисним для студентів і викладачів.

Foreword
In terms of successful implementation of state educational standards and the integration of Ukraine into Europe an important factor in solving problems of foreign economic and international relations is improvement of students’ foreign language practice stage.
Junior specialist’s educational qualifying characteristics of professional direction “Automation devices and technological production systems assembly and servicing” includes a number of requirements to an automation-specialist, such as English language proficiency, spelling and punctuation literacy.
Considering the importance of future professionals’ training, curriculum of the subject “Foreign language for professional purposes” includes the study of thematic vocabulary, basics of grammar, linguistic expressions, and professional terms, development of communication abilities and business communication skills with foreign partners.
In consequence of studying the subject the student should be able to read, understand and translate specialized texts; conduct business discussions and negotiations on maintenance, repair and estimated cost; choose language means correctly according to the situation and identity of the interlocutor.
Textbook includes selection of texts and specialized practical exercises that helps students to improve theoretical knowledge, practical skills, develop foreign language communicative abilities, and form necessary features for life and future career.
Training effectiveness, clarity, simplicity and professional orientation of the textbook makes it particularly useful for students and teachers.
The textbook is an important step in the implementation of professionally-oriented learning of foreign language.

1.Memorize the following words and expressions:

2.Read and translate the text. Try to retell it. Technical english
Technical English is often said to be difficult to understand. One of the reasons for this is that many English words can have several meanings. In order to master technical English the student must first acquire a thorough knowledge of everyday English with its grammar, vocabulary and rules of word-formation. Then it will be easy for him to learn, step by step, the peculiarities of technical English. The problem of vocabulary also causes difficulty to the reader of technical English. Each branch of science and technology has its own separate vocabulary. Ability to translate a foreign technical text demands sufficient technical knowledge to understand it and also a great linguistic knowledge and skill.
3.Answer the questions:
How long do you study English?
How many English lessons do you have a week?
Are your lessons interesting?
Why do you study foreign languages?
Why do you learn grammar?
4.Make up your own dialogues using the following word combinations:
Mother tongue, to speak a little, to study technical English, vocabulary, to have a good command of, to be of the great importance.
5.Ask as many questions on the text as possible: how to use a dictionary
There are many good English dictionaries. A good dictionary, if correctly used, will yield a wealth of information. When translating, you may find the following suggestions useful:
Carefully read the text to be translated.
Read the text and underline unfamiliar words.
Make a rough translation.
Look up any unfamiliar words and phrases.
Remember that the text form of a doubtful word may have to be “converted” into the dictionary form. Small dictionaries exclude certain kinds of words and you need some knowledge of word-formation in the foreign language.
6.Translate into English the following sentences:
У нашій майбутній роботі дуже важливим є знання англійської мови. Як ви сподіваєтеся скласти іспит з англійської мови? Я почав вчити англійську мову ще в школі. Тепер діти починають вивчати іноземну мову самостійно. Ви добре володієте англійською мовою. Я хотів би мати міцні знання з розмовної англійської мови. Запам’ятайте мою пораду: що більше ви будете спілкуватися іноземною мовою, то швидше ви навчитеся розмовляти нею.
