Nikolay M.Amosov (Nicholas Amossov) To N.Amosov's site   ›››   Ukrainian    Russian There is no more Nikolay M. Amosov. It is hard to believe in it ... It seemed, he would remain unchanged, while the time is changing and he would live and live, granting people his clever books and interviews on urgent issues, helping us with his optimism, with his kind advices, frankness and openness of his unordinary outlooks on the life, society, and the future. His book "World Outlook" has appeared only a week ago. In the foreword to it Nikolay Amosov had written: "My life is given to surgery. But not only to it: I've got an engineering diploma, I've worked in cybernetics, made numerous researches and models of the intelligence, the mentality and the society. I have got pupils some of whom became scientists, I have published articles and books. Always I would like to understand: Whence complexity of the world has originated? "What is the truth?" How the intellect functions: that of an animal, of a person and of a society ? At last, what is the destiny of mankind? Whether the "dart of the progress" is available in evolution of the world? At last, I have always tried to understand myself, to control my own mentality and to meet adequately the end. I am 88, plus a bad heart (a stimulator, an artificial valve and shunts on coronary vessels). However, I am involved in the experiment on overcoming the aging: two hours of exercises a day, one hour of walking and a diet, but prospects are doubtful. I reflect on sciences out of pure interest, I write and I publish books because of the need of self-expression, without having claims to be recognized. Therefore there will be no references and polemics. I do not exaggerate a "scientific character" of my philosophy, probably, there is some dilettantism in it. I would like to create (for myself!) the integral conception on the world, at least in the most generalized form. At the same time I try to find out - what kind of happiness is possible for a person and a society, what it's need to be done to reach it and whether the chances for a success are good. My world outlook is of scientific and material character. The mind of a human being creates religious alternatives of the universe. Psychologically they can be more comfortable, but I am too a realist to believe in them." It is a pity, that the book is edited only in 100 copies. It should have been much more - the book is very interesting, You can judge yourself - here are its headings: Intelligence, Person, Society, Geopolitics, Future, Other physics. The book can be considered as the result of thoughts of an outstanding - Thinker over the role, purpose and the future of mankind. But it is only one of Nikolay Amosov's three lives. The first one was his life as a surgeon which started in the hard years of the Great Patriotic war. Continuation followed in post-war decades - thousands upon thousands of the most complicated heart surgeries, rescue of people, many of which have already considered, that they were sentenced to death. Nikolay Amosov becomes famous not only in Ukraine, but also in the former Soviet Union and in the world. At that time he starts working as a cybernetician scientist. Under his guidance there have been developed researches on artificial intelligence, robots and neuron computer. And simultaneously he managed to publish one book after another. But not the above-mentioned was of great importance. The main thing was that his books, and not only books, but also his articles in leading newspapers, his speeches before broad audiences aroused great interest by its frankness irrespective of what he wrote or spoke: be it about himself, about the work of a surgeon, about current system shortcomings - everything turned out to be important events influencing our life, and inspiring us with his correctness, sincerity and conviction. Nikolay Amosov has become the recognized ideological leader of our society. One of the letters, sent to a newspaper which published Amosov's sociological survey on estimation of the present situation in Ukraine, had worded it very expressively: "to the Person to whom we entrusted our hearts, we can entrust the answer to the question - how we should live!" And so he worked till the last day of his life. On his working table there was a computer by means of which via Internet he communicated with the whole world and the world responded him with numerous letters, comments to his books full of thankful words for everything he had done for people. About such people it is very good written in the book "Geniuses in art and in science" (N.V.Goncharenko, M. 1991, page 379): "It is possible to intensify one's life up to a limit, to make numerous world round-trips, to visit the greatest cities of the world, to read an ultimate number of literary and scientific masterpieces, to communicate with the most interesting contemporaries, to participate in the most important events of the century, that is to prolong one's life in its width and depth. But nevertheless your life would remain the only one and unique, the duration of which is always restricted by the nature. Anyway, people used to think so. And whether you have created something great and long-lived or pulled the sad routine of an office employee, you could have enriched or make colourless only your own life, beyond of which is the absolute dead-level of identical non-existence for everybody. A genius realizes it much deeper than others and through his greatest creative efforts tries to put many lives into his own one, enriching essentially its content." Nikolay Mihajlovich Amosov has really managed to combine three lives of the great surgeon, the remarkable writer and the brilliant thinker and publicist in his only one. Farewell, dear Nikolay Mihajlovich!

Ich habe Angst, dass ich manche Grammatik bzw. Lexik Fehler begehen könnte, deswegen traue ich mir diesen kleinen Bericht auf Deutsch zu verfassen.

Ich habe viel Positives über Herrn Amosov gehört, und das eben durch eine sehr ausgebildete Frau aus Kasakhstan, die mir den Autor empfohlen hat. Ich lese ihn nun. Was mich sehr beeindruckt hat, ist die ideenreiche Welt des russischen Menschen. Er (Amosov) kann einen sehr ermutigen und motivieren, indem man positiv in sein eigenes Leben hinschaut. Die Kasachin ist eben dank ihm nun lebensfroh geworden.

Alles, was ich z.Z. über ihn sagen könnte!

Very interesting writing, biography and all.

I red hour after hour for two days, now my neck hurts.

Although, I did stop sometimes to move my limbs around, feeling too ashamed not to catch up with Amosov.

We mourn the death of our beloved father and teacher Nikolay Amosov.

His good work and efforts to understand life will surely continue shape good life and health to people and further more change life for the better. May his soul REST IN PERFECT PEACE.
