3) Причастие (Participle)

Причастие – это неличная форма глагола, которая обладает свойствами глагола, прилагательного или наречия.

Причастие часто служит определением к существитель­ному, так как оно обладает свойствами прилагательного (отвечает на вопрос какой?).

Например: I delivered the goods produced in this company.

Я доставил товары, произведенные в этой компании.

The signed documents are on the desk.

Подписанные документы находятся на письменном столе.

Так как причастие также может обладать свойствами наре­чия, в предложении оно может быть обстоятельством: от­вечает на вопрос что делая?

We were talking long discussing future plans.

Мы долго разговаривали, обсуждая планы на будущее.

He was preparing for the exam typing texts on the computer.

Он готовился к экзамену, печатая тексты на компьютере.

Причастие имеет как активную, так и пассивную формы:

Participle I – причастие I или Present Participle (настоя­щее причастие) образуется путем прибавления окончания –ing к глаголу в форме инфинитива.

To buy – buying; покупать – покупающий.

Например: I looked at the directory making the contract. Я посмотрел на директора, составляющего контракт.

Past Participle – прошедшее причастие или причастие II образуется так же, как и Past Simple – прибавлением окон­чания –ed к основе глагола (для правильных глаголов) и 3 формы глагола по таблице (для неправильных глаголов).

Например: order – ordered (заказывать - заказанный). The ordered goods are in the warehouse.

Write – written (писать - написанный). The written letter will be posted tomorrow.

Упражнение 1. Раскройте скобки, употребив причастие I или причастие II в следующих предложениях:

Например: We bought goods at (reduced; reducing) prices.

Reduced означает сниженный, сокращенный.

Reducing означает снижающий, сокращающий.

В словосочетании reduced prices причастие “reduced” упот­ребляется в форме Participle II (прошедшего причастия), т.е. оно имеет перевод “сниженный”, т.е. данное словосо­четание переводится как сниженные цены. А все предло­жение переводится следующим образом – Мы купили то­вары по сниженным ценам.

2. The (enclosed; enclosing) catalogue includes all prices.

3. I was listening to the company director (talked; talking) about the contract terms.

4. I often met John (sold; selling) newspapers and magazines.

5. The article about problems of demand and supply (pub­lished; publishing) in “Daily Mirror” was very interesting.

6. I think the information (received; receiving) by you last week was wrong.

7. I saw Mary (made; making) a phone call.

8. We were sitting in the hall (waited; waiting) for the Manag­ing Director.

9. Rusty Alexander signed the papers (brought; bringing) by the secretary.

10. He corrected the mistake (found; finding) by me.
