The National Emergency Training Centre Part II The National Fire Academy
The academy offers a wide range of courses to aid in the professional development of fire service personnel and of other persons engaged in fire prevention and control activities. The academy provides many programs, both on its campus and other sites through its extension service.
On the Emmitsburg campus, the Academy conducts specialized training course and advanced management programs of national impact. On campus programs target middle-and top-level fire officers, fire service instructors, technical professionals and representatives from allied professions. Any person with substantial involvement in fire prevention and control, emergency medical services, or fire related emergency management activities is eligible to apply for Academy courses.
Due to space and budget limitations, NFA cannot accept all qualified applicants for courses at the Emmitsburg campus. Also many volunteer and career fire service personnel do not have time to attend on- campus programs. NFA 2-day courses are available for direct delivery in States and local communities. Students can attend NFA resident course within their geographical region through the Academy’s off campus, regional delivery program. Through a cooperative working relationship with State and local fire-training systems and the branches of the Armed Services, the Trainer Program provides expanded opportunities for fire service personnel to participate in Academy courses at the State and local level.
For those interested in pursuing degrees, the Degrees Program extends NFA’s academic outreach through a network of seven colleges and universities. Fire service personnel who cannot attend college due to work hours and locations are able to earn a degree in fire technology and management through independent study.
