Task

You recently spent two months studying in the United States, as part of an exchange programme. Your school principal has now sent you this memo. Write your report.

To: All students returning from US exchange programme

From: The Principal

It has become increasingly costly to send our students to the US and the school is currently considering whether this programme should continue.

Would you please write a report, answering these questions:

  • How did you spend your time? (main studies and any other activities)

  • What were the particular benefits to you?

  • Should the programme be modified at all?

You should write about 200 - 250 words.

Time: 40 minutes

Remember the key points:

  • Remember that this is a report - do not start the piece of writing as if it were a letter.

  • Decide on the level of formality according to the target reader.

  • Ensure that you fully understand the purpose of the report.

  • Include an introduction that summarizes the content of your report.

  • State any recommendation clearly in the final paragraph.

  • Check for spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes.

Imagine you are a “tourist guide”. Your task is to tell a "foreign tourist" (your partner) about the famous artist and his masterpiece (picture 1, set 1).

You are given a fact file in Russian from which you should choose the information and present it to the “tourist” in an entertaining way.

Tell your partner about

  • the style of painting

  • the artist

  • some peculiarities of his masterpiece

You are given 10 minutes to look through the fact file and get prepared to your part of the “tour”. Your speech should last for 3 minutes.

(Dialogue: 2 minutes)

Answer 2 QUESTIONS of your partner (“a foreign tourist”), who wants to get ADDITIONAL FACTS and INFORMATION, which were not mentioned in your presentation.

Task 2

(Dialogue: 2 minutes)

Now you are a “foreign tourist”. Listen to the presentation of your partner on another picture, ask your partner (“a tourist guide”) 2 QUESTIONS about the picture to get ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, not mentioned by your partner. (picture 2, set 2)
