XII. Прочитайте и переведите текст: colours

Colour is complicated. The multitude of colour theories, systems, concepts, and definitions is mind-boggling. The scientific aspects of colour alone could fill volumes, from Isaac Newton's first circular diagram now known as the "traditional" colour wheel, to today's colour-conscious corporate culture that has long employed the services of professional colourists to predict best-selling colours and colour combinations. Predictions are constantly changing, though, so finding the latest "in" colour at any given moment could take a lifetime. And if you are like most people you have made more than one colour blunder. Maybe even dozens upon dozens of colour mistakes. Not understanding just a few basic principles about colour is probably the single number one reason for not being able to select an optimal colour palette.

Different colour systems are used by artists, printers, and scientists. Artists and painters use three primary colours – red, yellow, blue – to create all other colours. Scientists use an entirely different system based on light where red, green and blue are used as the primaries. An example of this colour system would be the colours generated on a computer screen or on a television.

Colours can be divided into 2 categories: Warm and Cool. Warm colours are reds, oranges and yellows remind us of fire and sunshine, making us feel warm in a psychological sense. Cool colours are blues, greens and violets, remind us of pastoral or ocean landscapes, engendering a sense of peace, calm and relaxation.

RED colour has been shown to increase heart rate and blood pressure, producing feelings of energy, intimacy, passion and sexuality. It also stimulates the appetite, making it popular choice for dining rooms.

Complimentary Colours: Yellow and Orange

Contrasting Colour: Green

Shades of ORANGE can bring a sense of friendly, welcoming warmth to a room and great for a living room, family room and children’s rooms.

Complimentary Colours: Yellow and Red

Contrasting Colour: Blue

YELLOW tones are warm and welcoming, but more visible than orange. Yellow makes people feel happy, however a bright yellow can have agitating effects and great for poorly lit rooms including hallways and foyers.

Complimentary Colours: Green and Orange

Contrasting Colour: Violet

GREEN may be the most versatile of all. Green remind us of natural settings, and are thus relaxing and easy on the eyes, so select light greens for bedrooms and living areas, mid-tones for kitchens and dining rooms.

Complimentary Colours: Yellow and Blue

Contrasting Colour: Red

BLUE creates a calm, tranquil feeling, but suppresses the appetite and good for bedrooms.

Complimentary Colours: Green and Violet

Contrasting Colour: Orange

VIOLET and purple are favourites among young children but are disliked by many people. The rose family of colours tends to be received more favourably.
