Us political system

The United States of America is a presidential republic. The President is the Head of the state and he is elected by the people.

The legislative branch is the Congress which consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives. There are 100 senators, two for each state. The House has 435 members, the number of Representatives from each state depends on (зависит от) its population. The Congress makes laws which must be signed by the President, who has the right to veto any bill. But it can still (все-таки) become the law if it is passed by a two-thirds majority of the Congress.

The executive branch is the President and his Administration with the Secretaries (ministers) of the departments. Each department is responsible for (ответственен за) a specific area. The two leading parties are the Democrats and the Republicans.

The third branch of government is the federal judiciary – the Supreme Court which consider cases with the interpretation of the American Constitution.
