A
closet full of many shoes
Is what every girl desires
It's so nice that they come in twos
Some pairs are flat while others higher
Take those boots there in the back
I wear them when it's snowing
Five pair of sandals in shades of black
For summer errand-going
I've shoes in every rainbow shade
Amassed throughout the years
Not quite up to Imelda's grade
But enough for my careers

COMMENT [1, p.140]
Verb patterns: infinitive/-ing form
Some verbs can be followed by either a to-infinitive or an –ing form with a little or no difference in meaning:
I started to scream or I started screaming.
Other verbs like this include: begin, not bother, cease, and continue.
! We normally avoid using two-ing forms together.
After the opinion verbs hate, like, love, prefer we can use either a to-infinitive or an –ing form with little difference in meaning.
When I was younger, I used to hate to swim in the sea. (=implies regular swimming)
When I was younger, I used to hate swimming in the sea. (=implies swimming in general)
After would with hate, like, love, prefer, we use a to-infinitive.
I would love to think that it could avoid a huge expansion in visitors.
Try to choose the correct verb forms in italics.
1. I’ve always enjoyed to travel/travelling.
2. We decided to travel/travelling to the four corner of the globe.
3. We are planning to go/going to Mexico next year.
4. I put off to go/going abroad all my life.
5. Martin managed to find/finding a friendly taxi.
