RELATIONS OF UKRAINE WITH THE ENGLISH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES
As now Ukraine is a sovereign state, it establishes new relations with the countries throughout the world. It sets direct contacts with many foreign countries signing agreements and treaties. A lot of foreign Embassies have appealed in its capital lately. Ukraine is one of the founding members of the United Nations Organizations (UNO) and participates in the work of many international organizations.
The topics of our radio and television talks are often Ukrainian — American relations and our viewpoint on the prospect of their development, and a wide range of other international issues
A fundamental reshaping of foreign policy could only be effected on the basis of a strictly scientific and objective reassessment of the present-day realities. This evaluation the in-depth analysis of international affairs and the consideration of our national interests resulted in the new political thinking. Nowadays the political life is giving fresh grounds for the relations of mutual understanding between Ukraine and the USA, Great Britain, Canada and other English-speaking countries. The new political thinking, as seen by the Ukrainian leadership and by foreign experts, is not something frozen and immobile. It is exceptionally creative process, receptive to innovation.
The reason for the new type of relations is that all English-speaking countries want to set broader economic ties with Ukraine. The exchanging of opinions with the delegations from the English-speaking countries is generally marked by goodwill and intense interest.
It is not a secret, that everybody showed an excited interest listening to the American President’s speech during his first visit to Ukraine in 1995. Politicians, journalists, businessmen, all ordinary people, students and even pupils were particularly impressed by his knowledge of Ukrainian poetry, when Bill Klinton recited some lines written by the famous Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko.
Taking into consideration the development in Ukraine, a lot of joint ventures have appeared recently in its cities and towns. A lot of delegations, businessmen, specialists and tourists from the English-speaking countries keep coming to Ukraine.

yiv
is considered one of the largest and most beautiful cities in the
world. Its history goes
back to the remote past. According to the historiography Kyiv was
founded in the letter
half of the 5-th or the early 6-th century.
A well-known legend which came to us, says that the founders of the city were three brothers Kyi, Shchek and Khoryv. So the city got its name after the eldest brother Kyi.
With the foundation of Kyivan Rus Kyiv became its capital.
Centuries passed over it and left their mark here.
The city saw the great Tatar invasion, which swept across the Ukrainian lands, came under Polish and Lithuanian rule, suffered greatly during the Great Patriotic War. But nothing could wipe the city off the face of the earth.

Kyiv is not only the capital of Ukraine, it is a cultural,
scientific, administrative
and industrial centre.
Kyiv stretches on the high hills along the Dnieper rivaling the oldest and most charming cities of the world. With its abundant greenery and chestnut trees it looks like a huge park.
The main street is Kreschatik. The street is only one kilometre long but it is very impressive. Besides government offices and administrative buildings you can see large cinemas, restaurants, shops and cafeterias.
From its past the city inherited a great number of historical monuments. Among them Saint Volodymyr’s Cathedral, Sophia’s Cathedral, Saint Andrew’s Church, Kyiv — Pecherska Lavra, which remind people that Kyiv has always been the centre of Slavonic culture and Orthodox Church.

city has many museums: the Natural History Museum, the Museum of
Historical Treasures, the Ukrainian Art Museum, the Museum of
Western and Oriental Art, and the Ukrainian
Museum of Folk Architecture and Ethnography. The museums can boast
of their
wonderful collections. Kyiv is proud of the Shevchenko Opera and
Ballet Theatre, the Lesia
Ukrainka Drama Theatre, the Theatre of Musical Comedy, the
Conservatoire etc.
Kyiv is a busy industrial city. Its numerous enterprises produce excavators, air liners, computers, automatic lathes, engineering machines, precision instruments, chemical goods and textiles and all kinds of consumer goods.
Not only inhabitants of Kyiv but all citizens of Ukraine are proud of their capital.
