Exercise 1. Read and translate the texts and the dialogue:

Text 1. First aid

Everybody must know how to give first aid. The first aid saves many lives. The first aid is the help which you give to an injured person. You must know different methods of helping in accidents. When you give the first aid you must be calm and act without panic.

When the blood flows from artery it is scarlet. When the blood flows from a vein it is a dark red.

Stop the bleeding as soon as possible. The simple method is to put clean cloth over the wound and bandage it tightly. If the bleeding is from an arm or leg raise the limb.

If the person has nosebleed after a bad bruise you must put a cold compress on the nose. The person must breathe through his mouth. In severe cases doctors make blood transfusion.

Text 2. In a hospital

My friend is a doctor. He works at a therapeutic hospital. Many doctors and nurses work at the therapeutic hospital. Our hospital is very large. Work at the hospital begins at 6 o`clock in the morning. The nurses begin to take the patients temperature at 6 o`clock. They write it down in temperature charts. The nurses give the patients medicines and carry out others prescriptions of the doctors. They open the windows and air wards.

The doctors came at 9 o`clock in the morning and begin to examine the patients. Each ward nurse tells the doctor about her patients.

The doctor asks the ward nurse about the condition of her patients. Sometimes she tells that they are well. And sometimes the nurse tells the doctor that the temperature of some of the patients is high and the doctor prescribes some new medicines or injections.

My friend likes his profession very much. He knows that much of the doctor`s work can be learnt by practice. So he is very attentive and try to observe any changes in a patient`s condition.

Dialogue 1. At the doctor’s

For a week I feel pain in my stomach and I decided to consult a doctor. Here is the conversation between me and the doctor.

Volkov: Good morning.

Doctor: Good morning. What is your name?

Volkov: My name is Volkov.

Doctor: What`s the matter with you?

Volkov: Here, doctor.

Doctor: Does this pain go to another place?

Volkov: It goes to my back sometimes.

Doctor: Does it bother you at night?

Volkov: Most of the time.

Doctor: We`ll take X-rays of your stomach and make blood test. I`ll tell you the diagnosis after I have all your tests and I`ll prescribe you some treatment.
