VI. Read the following text.
Sport plays an important part in our life as our state of health depends on it. It’s popular among both children and grown-ups. The sport helps to bring up physically strong, courageous, strong-willed and energetic people.
People who are interested in sport can be roughly divided into two following groups: those who like doing sport and those who prefer watching sport events or competitions. The first group includes people who prefer to take part in competitions, do morning exercises regularly and train themselves in different clubs and sections. The second group is more numerous and consists of people who like just watching competitions and sport games, listening to sport news and interesting stories about sportsmen. They do not go in for sport.
As for me I prefer doing sport and do it regularly. The main reason is that by nature I’m an active person and I cannot stand or sit for hours doing nothing. The second reason – I’m a firm believer in benefits sport brings us. Nowadays most people from industrialized countries have a sedentary lifestyle, which can have ill effects on their health. And the single way to be healthy is to keep fit and do sports. That is why I regularly do sport. There are many kinds of sport: volleyball, football, hockey, skiing, skating, gymnastics. Athletics is very popular and it includes such kinds of sport as jumping and running.
My favourite sport is swimming. To go swimming is the best way for distressing and taking away our daily life tiredness. I attend the pool several times a week, but I prefer to rest on the river or the lake and swim there.
