OUR UNIVERSITY

On September 1, 1964 the Radioengineering Institute admitted students for the first time. The youngest State Institute in Minsk was established on the basis of the oldest Polytechnic Institute of the Republic of Belarus.

The University has training about 45.000 engineers, 70 doctors of science and 745 PhD for 40 years. The University is proud of its graduates prominent scientists, outstanding politicians and diplomats, managers of famous enterprises and companies.

At present, the University offers training in 28 specialties and 44 specializations in the field of computer facilities, radioengineering, micro- and nano-electronic technologies and systems, information technologies software, artificial intelligence, medical electronics, information systems and technologies in economics.

Over 10 thousand students from the country and abroad study at 10 faculties and 34 departments as full-time, distance, correspondence or evening department students. The education process and scientific researches are carried on by highly competent teaching stuff. Among them there are academicians, corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, academicians – full members of the New York Academy of sciences, 60 professors, 300 assistant-professors.

The University campus includes 7 buildings with up-to-date teaching faculties supplied with various devices and laboratory equipment. A large library with reading halls is at the students’ disposal. A number of computer classes at the University are equipped with modern computers of world-known companies, such as Philips, Intel, IBM and their Belarusian partners.

Nobody can deny the vital importance of mastering foreign languages nowadays Two departments teach the English, French, German and Spanish languages to the students, post-graduates and the personnel of the University Students have additional opportunity to acquire the specialty of the interpret.

Great attention is paid to the health of students, to provision of necessary conditions for study, everyday life and pleasure time.

The students who are financially covered by the Government are granted monthly studentships. Students are provided with all necessary aids and reading material for study. They are encouraged to use the University library and its rich books found, including over 1 million textbooks, monographs.

Students from other cities as well foreign students lodge in the U’s hostels with total capacity of 2100 people.

The University is proud of its brass band, which was awarded the title of the National band, as well as the folk group “Tuteishiya”, the vocal group “Hamanina”, the ensemble of sport dance “tango”, the group of national Gypsy song “Shadritsa”, song ensembles of the students and the teaching stuff.

The newspaper “Impulse” has been published at the University since 1985. It covers all aspects of wide-range activities of the University.

The University teams regularly win the leading positions of student sports in athletics and keep-fit activities. Belarusian best athletes had their trainings in the gymnasiums of the University among them are the Olympic champion, basketball player Ivan Edeshko and vice-chairman of the Olympic Champion and freeman of Minsk Alexander Medved. The University basketball team “RTI-Minsk” has been successfully participating in the USSR and CIS championships for 30 years.
