Injectiontime(injectionvolume)

Thefactorstodeterminetheinjectiontimeincludethebasicfuelinjectiontimewhichiscalculatedonthebasisoftheintakeairpressure,enginespeedandthrottleopeningangle,andvariouscompensationswhicharedeterminedaccordingtothesignalsfromvarioussensorsthatdetecttheengineanddrivingconditions.

COMPENSATIONOFINJECTIONTIME(VOLUME)

Thefollowingdifferentsignalsareoutputfromtherespectivesensorsforcompensationofthefuelinjectiontime(volume).

SIGNALDESCRIPTION

ATMOSPHERICPRESSURESENSORSIG-Whenatmosphericpressureislow,thesensorsendsthe

NALsignaltotheECMandreducetheinjectiontime(volume).ENGINECOOLANTTEMPERATURESEN-Whenenginecoolanttemperatureislow,injectiontime(vol-

SORSIGNALume)isincreased.

INTAKEAIRTEMPERATURESENSORSIG-Whenintakeairtemperatureislow,injectiontime(volume)NALisincreased.

BATTERYVOLTAGESIGNALECMoperatesonthebatteryvoltageandatthesametime,itmonitorsthevoltagesignalforcompensationofthefuelinjectiontime(volume).Alongerinjectiontimeisneededtoadjustinjectionvolumeinthecaseoflowvoltage.

ENGINERPMSIGNALAthighspeed,theinjectiontime(volume)isincreased.ThisisthecompensationoftheSAAD.

STARTINGSIGNALWhenstartingengine,additionalfuelisinjectedduringcrank-ingengine.

ACCELERATIONSIGNAUDuringacceleration,thefuelinjectiontime(volume)isin-DECELERATIONSIGNALcreased,inaccordancewiththethrottleopeningspeedandenginerpm.Duringdeceleration,thefuelinjectiontime(vol-

ume)isdecreased.

SIGNALDESCRIPTION

TIPOVERSENSORSIGNALWhenthemotorcycletipsover,thetipoversensorsendsa

(FUELSHUT-OFF)signaltotheECM.Then,thissignalcutsOFFcurrentsup-pliedtothefuelpump,fuelinjectorsandignitioncoils.

OVER-REV.LIMITERSIGNALThefuelinjectorsstopoperationwhenenginerpmreachesrev.limitrpm.

FUELDELIVERYSYSTEM

Thefueldeliverysystemconsistsofthefueltank,fuelpump,fuelfilters,fuelfeedhose,fueldeliverypipe(includingfuelinjectors)andfuelpressureregulator.Thereisnofuelreturnhose.Thefuelinthefueltankispumpedupbythefuelpumpandpressurizedfueltoflowintotheinjectorinstalledinthefueldeliverypipe.Fuelpressureisregulatedbythefuelpressureregulator.Asthefuelpressureappliedtothefuelinjector(thefuelpressureinthefueldeliverypipe)isalwayskeptabsolutefuelpressureof3.0kgf/cm2(300kPa,43psi),thefuelisinjectedintothethrottlebodyinconicdispersionwhentheinjectoropensaccordingtotheinjectionsignalfromtheECM.

Thefuelrelievedbythefuelpressureregulatorflowsouttothefueltank.

FUELPUMP

Theelectricfuelpumpismountedatthebottomofthefueltank,whichconsistsofthearmature,magnet,impeller,brush,checkvalveandreliefvalve.TheECMcontrolsitsON/OFFoperationascontrolledundertheFUELPUMPCONTROLSYSTEM.

Whenelectricalenergyissuppliedtothefuelpump,themotorinthepumprunsandsodoestheimpeller.Thiscausesapressuredifferencetooccurbetweenbothsidesoftheimpellerastherearemanygroovesaroundit.Thenthefuelisdrawnthroughtheinletport,andwithitspressureincreased,itisdischargedthroughtheoutletport.Thefuelpumphasacheckvalvetokeepsomepressureinthefuelfeedhoseevenwhenthefuelpumpisstopped.Also,thereliefvalveisequippedinthefuelpump,whichreleasespressurizedfueltothefueltankwhentheoutletofthefuelpressurehasincreasedupto4.5-6.0kgf/cm2(450-600kPa,64-85

psi).

Whentheimpellerisdrivenbythemotor,pressuredifferentialoccursbetweenthefrontpartandtherearpartofthebladegrooveasviewedinangulardirectionduetofluidfriction.Thisprocesscontinuouslytakesplacecausingfuelpressuretobebuiltup.Thepressurizedfuelisthenletoutfromthepumpchamberanddischargedthroughthemotorsectionandthecheckvalve.

Thefuelpressureregulatorconsistsofthespringandvalve.Itkeepsabsolutefuelpressureof3.0kgf/cm2

(300kPa,43psi)appliedtotheinjectoratalltimes.

Whenthefuelpressurerisesmorethan3.0kgf/cm2(300kPa,43psi),thefuelpushesthevalveintheregulatoropenandexcessfuelreturnstothefueltank.

FUELINJECTOR

Thefuelinjectorconsistsofthesolenoidcoil,plunger,needlevalveandfilter.

ItisanelectromagnetictypeinjectionnozzlewhichinjectsfuelinthethrottlebodyaccordingtothesignalfromtheECM.

WhenthesolenoidcoiloftheinjectorisenergizedbytheECM,itbecomesanelectromagnetandattractstheplunger.Atthesametime,theneedlevalveincorporatedwiththeplungeropensandtheinjectorwhichisunderthefuelpressureinjectsfuelinconicdispersion.Astheliftstrokeoftheneedlevalveoftheinjectorissetconstant,thevolumeofthefuelinjectedatonetimeisdeterminedbythelengthoftimeduringwhichthe

solenoidcoilisenergized(injectiontime).

FUELPUMPCONTROLSYSTEM

Whentheignitionswitchisturnedon,currentfromthebatteryflowstothefuelpumpmotorthroughtheside-standrelayandthefuelpumprelaycausingthemotortoturn.

SincetheECMhasatimerfunction,thefuelpumpmotorstopsturninginthreesecondsaftertheswitchhasbeenturnedon.

Thereafter,whenthecrankshaftisturnedbythestartermotorortheenginehasbeenstarted,theenginerevolvingsignalisinputtotheECM.Then,currentflowstothefuelpumpmotorfromthebatterythroughtheside-standrelayandthefuelpumprelaysothatthepumpcontinuestofunction.

Atipoversensorisprovidedinthefuelpumpcontrolcircuit.Bythisprovision,anytimethemotorcycletipsover,thetipoversensorsendsasignaltotheECMtoturnoffpowertothefuelpumprelay,causingthefuelpumpmotortostop.Atthesametime,currenttothefuelinjectorsaswellastheignitioncoilisinterrupted,

whichthenstopstheengine.

TheECMislocatedundertheseat.

TheECMconsistsofCPU(CentralProcessingUnit),memory(ROM)and1/0(Input/Output)sections.ThesignalfromeachsensorissenttotheinputsectionandthensenttoCPU.Onthebasisofsignalinformationreceived,CPUcalculatesthevolumeoffuelnecessaryforinjectionusingmapsprogrammedforvaryingengineconditions.Then,theoperationsignalofthefuelinjectionissentfromtheoutputsectiontothefuelinjector.

TheeightkindsofindependentprogrammapsareprogrammedintheROM.

Theseeightkindsofmapsaredesignedtocompensatefordifferencesoftheintake/exhaustsystemsandcoolingperformance.

LIGHTLOAD:Whentheengineisrunninginalightload,thefuelinjectedvolume(time)isdeterminedthebasisoftheintakeairpressureandenginespeed.

HEAVYLOAD:Whentheengineisrunninginaheavyload,thefuelinjectedvolume(time)isdeterminedthe

basisofthethrottlevalveopeningandenginespeed.
