  • To learn about interpreter’s shorthand and to practice it

  • To develop professional skills required for adequate consecutive interpreting

  • To practice consecutive interpreting from English into Russian and from Russian into English (prepared and unprepared)

  • To learn about what a good consecutive interpreter must be

The main issues on the topic:

  • Types of interpreting

  • Interpreter’s shorthand

Methodical recommendations:

  • Listen to the numbers, write them down, translate them

  • Listen to the telephone numbers, write them down, translate them

  • Listen to the sentences/text, use interpreter’s shorthand, try to iinterprete the text with the help of your shorthand

  • Give feedback on your own/your group mate’s performance

  • Do the exercises on compression, memory training, concentration, probabilistic forecasting
