Text 2. Тнe terminal building functions

The terminal building should provide space for many activi­ties. Among them are:

1. The Airline operations. Airlines require the space in the terminal building for a variety of activities: - passenger and baggage-handling (processing) counters such at ticket counters (booking offices), check-in counters

- baggage claim area

- an information counter (inquiry office)

- telecommunication facilities - mail express and light cargo processing

- flight catering activities. 2. The facilities for the convenience of passengers;

A considerable amount of space must be allocated for the convenience of the general public The terminal building must provide space for:

- a central lobby (the American term is a "concourse"), where passengers may rest while waiting for their flights

- facilities for dispensing food (restaurant, snack-bare)

- a nursery for passengers with small children r a first-aid room

- public telephones

- a post-office department

- various gift shops and news-stands. 3. The offices for airport management (authorities)

Custom inspection, passport and health control are needed о at airports serving international traffic. And these must be lo­cated close to the aircraft loading positions. At large airports the air traffic control tower may be in a separate building. In such cases the communication facilities and the Weather Bureau are usually located on the lower floors of the same building.

In the main lobby there is an information board. Look! It is showing the constantly up-dated information. It is giving the destination (to/from), the time (departure / arrival), the relevant flight number. The final section of the board is for “remarks”. It is providing useful information now that the schedules are being altered because of adverse weather conditions.

A feature of this terminal building is the covered viewing balcony which is overlooking the apron and the fling field.

Упражнение 21. По образцу предыдущего упражнения составьте 8 пар предложений с глаголами В Indefinite И Continuous Tenses, используя следующие словосочетания:

to wait for a friend ( for tram number 3, for bus number 69, for trolleybus number 27); to listen to the teacher’s explanations, to watch TV programmes, to sleep, to read a newspaper (a magazine, a novel, a story), to write a letter exercise, a test-paper), to translate a text (an article), to have a nice time.

Упражнение 22. Поставьте общие вопросы к предложениям, дайте краткие утвердительные и отрицательные ответы.

  1. The passengers are checking-in their baggage at counter number.

  12. As you see the information board is showing the destination {to/from), the time (departure/arrival) and the relevant flight number.
