Билет № 20 The system of education in the usa.

Education in the United States of America is compulsory for children from the age of till 16(or18). In involves 12 years of schooling. A school years starts at the end August or at the beginning of September and ends in late June or early July. The length of the school year varies among the states as well as the day length. Students go to school 5 days a week. The American education system consists of 3 basic components: elementary, secondary and higher education. Elementary education starts when pupils are 6 years old. The programme of studies in elementary school includes the following subjects: English, Geography, Arithmetic, History of the USA, Natural sciences, P.T., singing, Drawing and wood or metal work. Secondary education begins when pupils move on to high or secondary school in ninth grade, where they continue their studies until the twelfth grade. After the first two years of education they can select subjects according to their professional interests. Every high school has a special teacher a guidance counselor who helps the students to choose these elective subjects. Also he helps them with some social problems. After graduating from high school the majority of the Americans go on studying at higher education establishments. In universities they have to study for four years to get a bachelor’s degree.

Билет № 21 Student’s working day. Leisure time.

I want to say that all weekdays of students, except weekends look very much the same. On weekdays the alarm clock wakes me up at about 7 o’clock and my day begins. Then I clean my teeth. At half past seven I am ready to have my breakfast. After breakfast I go to college. My college is far from my house. I get to college by bus. It takes me 30 minutes to get to college. My lessons begin at half past eight and finish at about 2 p.m. When I come home I have dinner. Then I rest little. After that I start doing my homework. As rule, I finish my homework at about 7o’clock. Then I usually have supper with my family. After supper I sit an internet or I walk with my friends. Then I go to bed. As for leisure time, every student spends leisure time differently. Some students are completely passive during leisure hours. They watch TV or to play computer games, to sit internet, listen to music and to read books. Other students prefer to spend their leisure time actively. They go in for sport. My people think that students have too much leisure time, but in my opinion, they are wrong, because we are very busy. And we just have no time to go somewhere .As for me, in my free time I walk with my friends, to sit internet and to read books and many other.

Nowadays English has become the world most important and most universal language. It is the official language in over forty countries and the most used language in international business, science, medicine, trade and cultural relations. The native speakers of English live in GB, the USA, Australia and New Zealand. English is one of the official languages in Canada, the South Africa Republic. It is one of the official languages of the United Nations Organization and other political organizations. It is the language of world’s scientific literature and computers technology. England’s history helps to understand the present condition of English. Many English worlds were borrowed from the language of Angles and Saxons. Hundreds of French world came into English. Many new words were brought by trades and travelers. To know the English language today is absolutely necessary for every educated person, for every good specialist. English is everywhere in our life. It is signs, clothing, soft drinks and household products around the world. The names of pop groups, computers software and magazines are often written in English. That is why in order to understand ourselves and the world around us we have to study foreign languages and English in particular.
