18. What do you know about modern market of investment funds services?

Modern global market of investment funds represent many services to invest.

Investment fund is firm that invests the pooled funds of retail investors for a fee. There are two types of investment companies: open-end (mutual funds) and closed-end (investment trusts).

U.S.-registered investment companies play a major role in the U.S. economy and world financial markets, managing more than $17 trillion in assets at year-end 2013 for nearly 98 million U.S. investors. Funds supplied investment capital in securities markets around the world and were among the largest groups of investors in the U.S. stock, commercial paper, and municipal securities markets.

Mutual funds reported $167 billion in net inflows in 2013; other registered investment companies also recorded positive net inflows. On net, investors added $152 billion to long-term mutual funds. Money market funds accounted for the other $15 billion. Mutual fund shareholders reinvested $189 billion in income dividends and $228 billion in capital gains distributions that mutual funds paid out during the year. Investor demand for exchange-traded funds (ETFs) continued to thrive, with net share issuance (including reinvested dividends) totaling $180 billion. Unit investment trusts (UITs) had new deposits of $56 billion, up 28 percent from 2012, and closed-end funds issued $10 billion in new shares.

Europe. Investment fund assets in Europe increased by 8.9 percent to EUR 9,788 billion.

The European investment fund industry enjoyed a year of strong growth in 2013, thanks to increased investor optimism amid encouraging economic data and rising stock markets. On the whole, 2013 saw a strong acceleration in the investor demand for equity and balanced funds. This happened despite highly volatile stock markets during the second quarter of the year.

World. Worldwide investment fund net assets have stood 111% higher at end 2013 than at end 2003. This represents an average annual growth rate of 7.8%.

The United States is the largest domicile for investment funds, holding a 45% market share at end 2013. Emerging markets accounted for 7% of the worldwide investment fund industry and other countries, including Japan, Canada and Australia, represented 12% of the worldwide market.

Ukraine. In Q4 2013 Ukrainian collective investment institutions (CII) continued gradual growth and improvement of key performance indicators, which, however, was accompanied by some negative effects. The main trends in the Ukrainian market CII Q4 2013 were as follows: further increase in the number of funds and - mainly in venture capital sector; the closure of a number of Open-ICI two-fold reduction in capital outflows from mutual funds - mostly because of domestic output, particularly institutional investors; reduction in total and proportion of securities held ISI. (+ 3.3%) to 177 523 million UAH, Venture CII - 5 526 million UAH (+ 3.4%) to 168 183 million UAH.
