91.Role of credit card processing in modern economy.
Currently, more than 200 countries use plastic cards in payment transactions, leading to the conclusion that the cards are an essential element of the so-called "technological revolution" in banking. The plastic cards in some cases are a key element of electronic banking and other systems. They came to the forefront in organizing money circulation industrialized countries of the West, gradually replacing checks and checkbooks.
The bank is interested to work with cards based on the following considerations:
- They allow you to increase the volume of attracted resources, we have in mind, firstly, the amount that cardholders have to put on their bank account. Secondly, it may be insurance deposits, which banks (Russian) Seek to ensure greater reliability "card" operations;
- For all card transactions (purchase, cashing, conversion), the bank usually charges a commission. In addition, the customer pays for the receipt of the credit card;
- Increased competitive potential of the bank with the global trend of repression of payment transactions not only cash, but also checks, bank credibility grows as participants in the innovation processes.
As for the less pleasant side "card" business for the bank it is associated with very high costs, especially at the beginning of the cards (entry into an existing system or organization of its own processing center, the cost of hardware and software, networking with shops, etc. etc.).
High costs and poor development of modern means of communication, without which it is impossible to conduct maintenance of the cards, and some other circumstances make large investments in risky enough business cards.
From the standpoint of the issuing bank is the most serious question of profitability of the services rendered. So for most of the operations performed using a credit card, it takes several years to become profitable.
In the global banking practice, the use of plastic cards is an important source of profit. In the United States, according to some estimates, credit cards represent only 6% of the loans issued by banks, but they give 10% of the total income received by these banks.
Ukrainian banks are actively developing this area of activity, often do not realize that we are talking about high-risk operations. Considering the negative aspects of the use of cards can be noted the high level of unauthorized use of cards, forgery, fraud.
Each bank has decided to provide its customers with maintenance services cards can how to create your billing system and start to work with the existing domestic and international payment systems.
Speaking about the main aspects of the use of plastic cards can note the following:
- Card business is currently quite well developed as in the world, and in Ukraine;
- Technically this kind of business is very progressive, is constantly evolving, and it uses the most advanced achievements of science and technology;
- For the introduction of banking products based on the use of bank cards is costly, especially in the early stages;
- With a rather strong unification of bank cards, equipment used in the card business, the rules of service, maintenance and compliance with technical standards on the market of bank services there is a very wide variety of different bank cards as various technology performance card and recruitment services and variety of payment systems, in which they participate;
- As a result of this diversity, many banks engaged in this business, emit and serve many different cards of different payment systems in order to offer the most complete package of card services to their customers. We have to buy expensive equipment, which tends, like all modern computer hardware become obsolete, in this regard, has plenty of such used equipment is offered for sale. Certain types of cards, such as magnetic stripe, gradually cease to be used, giving way to smart cards;
- Banks entering into the business at a later time, little benefit in that at the same cost to acquire work with maps better equipment, take into service, more high-tech card, the cost of which every day becomes more below.
