Electrical installation work is specialized construction work that is performed during the building or reconstruction of houses or structures intended for various purposes and that entails the installation of electric wiring and electrical equipment. The electric wiring may be overhead power lines, cable lines, current leads, or interior wiring. Examples of electrical equipment include electric machinery, distribution centers, and control consoles.
From the first glance a person who has little knowledge of the electrical installation work, may think that this work is very easy. It would seem there is nothing difficult in electric installation. Just take wires, lay them on the surface, twist them and connect to the outlet or switches. Many people naively believe that electrical work is finished after that. But for the professionals the approach to the electrical installation work is quite different. Everything is based on the safety and convenience of the ongoing use of the electrical system. Before you start any electrical work, you need to find competent and experienced workers who can do their job professionally, taking into account all the details of the energy supply project. Deviations from the project and unauthorized improvisation will cause many problems in the near future, for example, when inspected by the authorities.
Electrical installation work is usually carried out in two stages. The first stage includes the installation of fasteners or inserts in structural elements for electrical equipment and structures. It also includes the installation of conduits for electric wiring in the foundations and floors of buildings and the installation of wall sockets for outlets and switches. In the second stage, the electrical equipment and the structures are installed in the planned locations, and assembled. Professionals lay cables and wires and connect them to the installed electrical equipment. Electrical installation work is completed when the installed equipment is actuated and adjusted. The most complicated work in this respect is the adjustment of relay protection and automatic control systems for electric drives.
Electrical installation work is mechanized through the use of general-purpose construction machinery—for example, lift trucks, hoists, and truck cranes—and of specialized electrical-installation machinery, devices, and tools.
