At a party

It was a few days before Christmas, so when then the office closed at half past five, most of the young men and typists stayed and had a party. They ate and drank, danced and sang songs and nobody wanted to go home. But Joe had a wife at home and lived quite a long way from the city. Every few minutes he looked at his watch and at last when it was very late he began to leave. ”Joe!” shouted his friends.” Are you leaving? Why don’t you stay and enjoy the party?” “I am only going down to the station to miss the train back home. I will be back here in a few minutes”.

Level A: Listen and write down the translation of the story.

Level B: Listen, write down the translation of the story and make up 6 special questions to the text.

Більшість молодих людей вирішили залишитися і провести вечірку.

Було дуже весело і ніхто не хотів повертатися додому.

Джо мешкав досить далеко від міста.

Він постійно дивився на годинник і нарешті вийшов.

Друзі здивувалися такій поведінці Джо і почали його питати.

Джо відповів, що піде до станції лише для того, щоб спізнитися на потяг.

До Різдва залишилося лише декілька днів.

Мета: - вдосконалювати навички читання та усного мовлення з даної теми;

- формувати навички вживання нових ЛО в ММ і ДМ учнів у лексико – граматичних структурах;

- формувати навички групової та парної роботи, відповідальності за доручену справу, колективізму та толерантності;

- сприяти розвитку аналітичного та критичного мислення;

- розвивати кмітливість і пізнавальний інтерес до вивчення англійської мови.

a) Впр.1ст.66-discuss the following questions:

What does the word disability mean?

What’s the meaning of prefix-dis in the words disorder, disappear, discomfort?

What does the term disability mean?

What kinds of disabilities do some people have?

Why do some people have disabilities?

Can disabilities be cured?

c) Впр.2 ст. 66 Try some experiments. Let several students take part in each of them. Then discuss how it feels to be disabled.

During the draft times in the USA to get the lowest IQ possible a prospective draftee answered some personal questions like this:

“Medical history?” “Don’t read them – waiting for a movie.”

An Army nurse was asked at an exam, “What is a blood vessel?”

She replied, “A pirate ship.”

g) Music and Health: many young people like to listen to music everywhere they go, but loud music is a new health problem.

A decibel (d B) is a unit which measures how loud a sound is.

Here are the decibel counts for some everyday activities:

A sound level of 120 d B causes pain.

Doctors have found that 8 hours of listening to noises above 90 decibels results in a temporary loss of hearing and only 2 hours spent in 100 decibel noise causes permanent damage.
