Our Institute
Khakassky Technical Institute is a branch of Krasnoyarsk State Technical University. KhTI was founded in 1968. There are the following chairs :

Nowadays there are about 4,000 students. About 3,000 are full-time students, others are of distant education. The teaching staff constantly increases their level of education. The scientific fields of our institute are the following:

Our institute is not large. It consists of three buildings: administrative, laboratory and the building of economic faculty.
The institute has three buildings, a gymnasium-hall, an assembly-hall, various laboratories, subjects rooms, reading-rooms and a library well-stocked with books in various subjects. Students can find all the books necessary for their studies. It has also two hostels, a medical room, a students canteen and a refreshment room. The majority of students are accommodated in hostels for a token rent. They are offered medical services. Those who have passed all credit-tests and examinations successfully get a grant. Those who make good progress in their studies get an increase in their grants. The course of study lasts five years in our institute.An academic year is divided into two terms. Each term ends in an examination session.
On graduating, the students receive diplomas, which give them the right to work in all kinds of industries which are developed in our republic.

Metallurgy is one of the oldest arts but one of the youngest sciences. Many of the metals were known in ancient times, but only in the last century the knowledge of the metal properties has made it possible to apply them for industrial purpose.
Metallurgy falls into 3 parts: chemical (extractive), physical and mechanical. Chemical metallurgy includes the metallurgical processes involving change and methods of production and refining.
Physical metallurgy deals with the nature, structure and physical properties of metals and alloys. Mechanical metallurgy includes many processes of working and shaping metals.
The science of metal-casting industry includes many subjects to be learned. At the institute students as future engineers have to master these subjects successfully in order to be qualified specialists.
Metal-casting industry is a well-equipped one. It includes complex process and has complex equipment. A modern foundry is like a giant factory with different and complex equipment. Many kinds of processes take place at the metallurgical plants: Bessemer, open-hearth, electrical, cupola processes, alloy production, heat treatment of steel, molding, melting, etc.
Modern metallurgical enterprises are supplied with new machinery, blast, open-hearth, cupola, electrical furnaces, molding machines, die-casting machines, charging devices and so on.
Modern industrial engineering is one of the most important parts of metal working industry. Measurement and control are the important parts of industrial engineering. The scope of industrial engineering is broadening to assist management in optimizing the gains and minimizing the looses of the enterprises.
The students, who study at the metallurgical faculty, will have 2 trades: that of a mechanical engineer of iron and –steel plants equipment and that of a process engineer casting. The engineers will work either in the foundry or in the steel making plants, in the departments of chief metallurgist, chief mechanical engineer, as well as at the research and designing institutes of corresponding profile. As graduates of a metallurgical faculty can continue their education in post-graduate course. The profession of a metallurgist is a very important and necessary one, as the power of our country depends upon the development of heavy industry. Every year on the 20th of July people celebrate the professional holiday of the metallurgist.
