  • You never used to be like this.

  1. дополнение после глаголов to remember, to ask, to forget, to agree, to learn, to decide, to love, to promise, to like, to pretend, to hate, to wish, to be going, to prefer, а также слов happy, glad, pleased, sorry, delighted, afraid и др.:

  • I was going to ask you to come with us.

  • I'm sorry to disturb you.

Инфинитив в предложении может быть также подлежащим, определением, именной частью составного именного сказуемого, обстоятельством и входить в состав синтаксических конструкций - Complex Object (сложное дополнение), Complex Subject (сложное подлежащее) и For-to-Infinitive Construction (конструкция, вводимая предлогом for).

  1. подлежащее:

  • To confess one's fault freely is the next thing to being innocent of it.

  1. именная часть составного именного сказуемого:

  • Your primary task is to obey the law.

  1. определение:

  • Come on, we've got no time to waste.

  • Please give me some water to drink.

  1. обстоятельство:

  • She is clever enough to deny everything he has said.

  1. Complex Object, выступающий в роли сложного дополнения, включает существительное (или местоимение в объектном падеже) и инфинитив. Этот оборот употребляется после глаголов: to want, to like, to prefer, to know, to think, to advise, to ask, to help, to tell и некоторых других.

  • I want you to help me.

  • I ask you not to be late this time.

  1. После глаголов: to let, to make, to hear, to see, to watch и некоторых других инфинитив употребляется без частицы to.

  • I saw him cross the street.

  • She watched the children play in the yard.

  1. Complex Subject, выступающий в роли сложного подлежащего, состоит из существительного (или личного местоимения в именительном падеже), стоящего перед сказуемым, и инфинитива, следующего за сказуемым. Этот оборот употребляется, когда сказуемое выражено глаголами: to think, to know, to suppose, to hear, to see, to say, to report, to describe, to advise, to ask, to order и некоторыми другими в страдательном залоге, а также глаголами to seem, to happen, to appear в действительном залоге.

  • She is said to be a very talented lawyer.

  • They were asked to come an hour earlier.

  • He seems to know all laws and regulations.

  1. For-to-Infinitive Construction состоит из существительного (или местоимения), перед которым стоит предлог, и инфинитива:

  • It's difficult for first-year students to read such texts.

Оборот for + существительное (или местоимение) + инфинитив употребляется в качестве сложного подлежащего (с вводным it), именной части сказуемого, сложного дополнения, определения и обстоятельства.

  • It's necessary for me to know her new address. (сложное подлежащее)

  • This is for the judge to decide. (именная часть сказуемого)

  • The people waited for the trial to begin. (дополнение)

  • The father brought two books for his son to read. (определение)

  • The rule is easy enough for you to understand. (обстоятельство)

Exercise 1. Fill in the blanks with the infinitive of the appropriate verb: arrive, clean, cry, do, go, get, hear, know, sleep, wait, walk.

1.Please stay with me. I don't want you .... .

2.Kevin's parents didn't want him .... married.

3.She didn't understand the story, so she asked me .... it to her.

4.Don't wake me up tomorrow morning. Let me .... .

5.Talk quietly. I don't want anybody .... us.

6."Do you want to go by car?" - "No, let's .... ."

7.You're here early. I expected you .... later.

8.It was a very sad film. It made me .... .

9.Please don't tell Sarah about my plan. I don't want her .... .

10.The kitchen is very dirty. Can you help me .... it?

11."Shall we begin?" - "No, let's .... a few minutes."

12.What do you think about my problem? What do you advise me .... ?

Exercise 2. Open the brackets.
